“Moonrakers” named after the rectangle sail flown at the uppermost height of a three-mast 17th-century ship, is a state-of-the-art, upper-casual dining, full-service restaurant with rooftop dining and bar lounge area located in the Beaufort Historical District.
A menu featuring coastal cuisine in an elevated dining room with white tablecloths set on the water.

If you’re in Beaufort, NC, Moonrakers is a must-visit! Great spot right by the water with amazing food and a super relaxing vibe. Perfect for a casual meal with friends or a scenic dinner—definitely one of our favorites in town!

This restaurant is beautiful, the interior, exterior and everything about the atmosphere was really nice. The service also was great. The food however was just ok – nothing special and the prices were astronomical for the quality, so that was quite a disappointment. I had the tomato soup to start and it wasn’t very good, tasted a little burnt. Then we got the truffle fries and they were ok but it was a side of fries that was 19.00. I am perfectly willing to pay 19 for a meal, but a side of fries, that seemed excessive. I had the baby Kale Caesar for my meal and my husband had the special – scallops in a tikka masala sauce. The salad wasn’t good, the dressing had an odd flavor and had burnt cashews on it as a garnish so it gave it a bad flavor overall. The scallops were ok – but it was 4 scallops and it was 48 dollars. Definitely not worth it. Im glad we tried it but definitely will not be back!

The service was excellent, and I want to acknowledge the staff for their professionalism and attentiveness. Unfortunately, that was the only positive aspect of the evening.
We spent several hundred dollars expecting a refined, high-quality dining experience. Instead, the food was deeply disappointing and nowhere near the standard the pricing suggests. The quality and execution did not justify the cost in any way. There are far better fine dining options in Beaufort that deliver superior food at a lower price point, and I would strongly recommend those establishments over Moonrakers.
What is completely unacceptable, however, was discovering roaches in the upstairs restroom area. Seeing pests in a guest-accessible space raises serious concerns about the restaurant’s overall sanitation practices—particularly in food preparation areas. For a restaurant charging premium prices, this is inexcusable.
Due to the seriousness of this issue, I will be contacting the health department. This is not a minor complaint but a matter of public health and safety. I hope management understands the gravity of this situation and takes immediate corrective action.

We sat on the third floor with a stunning view overlooking the water and boats—it was the perfect setting. The atmosphere was spot on, and the music selection really matched the coastal vibe. The food was delicious! We started with the baked shrimp and calamari, both full of flavor, and ended with the lobster roll, which was a definite highlight. Our server, Jeremy, was friendly and made the experience even better. Can’t wait to come back!

I came here with my dad back in October but finally getting around to leaving a review. The food and drinks were amazing and our table on the deck was perfect for sunset. My only complaint is that when my boyfriend called to make the reservation, he tried to surprise us with a round of drinks and and appetizer, but the host wouldn’t take his credit card over the phone and told him they would bring the drinks and app for us anyway but he couldn’t pay for it. I’ve worked in the service industry for nearly 20 years and this seems odd to me that they wouldn’t accommodate this request. We didn’t end up getting the drinks or apps so clearly there was a miscommunication, which is a bummer. But everything otherwise was great

Wonderful place for bite by the water. The calamari has a really sweet sauce on it, but tasted pretty good. Burrata salad was perfect.

Man, we really wanted to love this place. The rooftop was awesome! Beautiful view and tasty drinks but the menu for dinner was totally ehh. So, we made a reservation to go for my birthday dinner downstairs for the following day. I will say the host was very nice and put us at a great table on the deck. Unfortunately, it went downhill from there. We ordered a bottle of wine and that came timely and the calamari app was amazing, but everything else was a disappointment that evening. My birthday was never acknowledged but the waiter (at an establishment like this you would at least expect a Happy Birthday), our waiter kept forgetting about us, and then totally forgot BOTH the clam chowder and our salad. We got both WITH THE MEAL. So, since you obviously can’t eat all that food at once everything ended up being cold too. I was in the hospitality business for years, so I understand that you can be busy, but he wasn’t in the weeds at all. He even admitted that he didn’t write down the order for us and he had to come back and check to see what we even ordered.
My $50 steak didn’t seem to have any seasoning or taste to be honest – I would never order that again. It was honestly one of the most disappointing steaks I’ve had at a restaurant. I’m still upset about it darn it! Lol! My husband got the salmon special that he said was very good and it was plated very nicely. I hate leaving negative reviews but when you go out for a special occasion and go to a nice restaurant with a $200 tab I expect great service and wonderful food. We didn’t receive either of those. Of course, being in the hospitality industry for years we still tipped properly. We actually even wanted to have a birthday dessert but we were so ready and fed up with the experience we ended up ordering carrot cake to go. We will definitely go back to the rooftop at some point but I don’t see us dining there again which is very disappointing. I’m hoping most people have a different experience than we did.
Signed, One bummed birthday girl

Absolutely beautiful restaurant with a spectacular view of the waterfront. The food is beautiful and delicious. The ingredients are highly quality. Drinks are fantastic. The frozen espresso martini and frozen painkillers are AMAZING! It is a little on the pricey for what is served. However, you are also paying for location….. I highly recommend for a date night.
