Back story: we had planned a weekend trip down to the Cincinnati/Ky area so we could visit the Newport Aquarium. We had both been so busy and grieving the loss of my dad back in August. This trip was for us to spend time alone without distractions. Needless to say, it was a great weekend because I got engaged! Before we got to the restaurant he had bent down on one knee and gave me the most beautiful ring. So dinner was a big deal and boy did it not disappoint!
Back at the first restaurant, we walk in and it wasn’t what we had pictured as far as sitting down and having a relaxing dinner. There were people standing in front of a window where customers are supposed to order their food, then go to the bar to order drinks, then you can sit down and wait for both. We stood and waited behind two people but after 15 minutes we chose to go elsewhere. That’s how we got to El Señor Pig We ordered fajitas for two with pork, steak, shrimp, bell pepper and onions. We each had a medium house margarita which were the cutest with a little pig with sunglasses sitting on top of each. The cast iron skillet they brought the fajita toppings in was enough for four or more people! The place was beautiful and so appealing to the eye and senses. It was an old bank and had most of the original vaults and such. The energy was great and service even better!
Our entire bill, including a $20 tip, was less than $80! Totally worth it and the leftovers were eaten for a couple days. I would highly recommend and I’m planning a day trip with my two kids so they can experience the refried beans, which are out of this world delicious.
I arrived and was greeted promptly and nicely.
The food was slightly below our satisfaction, because of inaccuracy and portion size.
The cheese tamale I ordered had chicken in it, which was disappointing. Also, the large chips (5.99) are not close to enough to go through a large queso, and we were left with a lot of extra queso with no chips to eat it with! Surprised the chips were so expensive for such a small bag. Of course I’m willing to pay for chips, but the under zealous handful was very disappointing.
Not sure if we are interested in trying this restaurant again with so many Mexican cuisine options close-by.
The restaurant was quite busy, as expected for Cinco de Mayo, but our wait time was only about seven minutes. There’s a small section in the front with a few tables and a bar. The patio was open, but it was too chilly for us to sit outside. We were seated in the back area, which had several more tables, so the restaurant has ample seating.
The service was acceptable. Rosa, the daughter’s friend, was our server. She was new and a little nervous, but she did well considering the restaurant had only been open for three days. It’s a family-owned and operated establishment.
The food was quite good. The only minor issue was that part of our appetizer arrived with our main course, but it was easily resolved. My wife’s strawberry margarita was a bit strong, but the food was hot and flavorful.
I have been here 2x since opening, and the experience has been “okay” both times. Considering I have been the only customers dining in both times, the service seemed bothered I was there?
Food was okay, nothing to write home about. To be fair, I ordered pretty basic food and nothing super authentic. Basic beef and cheese nachos…no other fixings came with them. Just seemed like something I could microwave at home LOL, but again not sure what I would expect based on what I ordered so more of an observation than a complaint.
Their salsa was fantastic though!! Would come back just to snack on some of that. It seemed to be made in house with pieces of onion, cilantro, and seasoning in it.
Parking is more than abundant with a full parking lot attached to the building and plenty of street parking if somehow you go when there’s more than 1 other person there.
Total experience would probably be 3.5 stars if I could.
