We must have visited a few days after they opened. It was still a great experience.
Came back here 5 months later and still enjoyed everything. By this time they had a server that spoke English well enough to encourage us to buy and try other items.
They did loose a star for selling drinks by the can. No unlimited drink options here… honestly how much could we possibly drink with that bucket of broth you give us?! I’m just sayin
But…
I do recommend Viet Huong.
Every restaurant I have patronized since the lockdown, of course has been takeout, and every restaurant has delivered excellent quality food, probably a little better then I had experienced dining in restaurants or taking out before they were forced to shutter their doors..
It seems establishments are really trying to put an effort into increasing quality and quantity; keeping customers happy through this pandemic, so their doors stay open and they are as successful as they were before this lockdown, when reopening.
That is everyone except Viet Huong.
The last time I got beef “Pho Tai Chin Nam” here was about 6 months ago and I got food poisoning, but I just chalked that up to me not heating the broth up enough at home before adding the ingredients, but after this last experience, giving them another try during this shutdown, I think it was their error and not mine, simply because of the quality of food they delivered in my most recent order, and what will be my last order ever here.
I got Beef Pho again and what I received was almost non-existent.
They gave me about half the amount of beef as I usually received in the dozens of orders I placed here before the food poisoning incident.
There was one sprig of cilantro and about six tiny leaves of Basil, ONE thin slice of jalapeno and a slice of lime that was so dry it literally delivered one drop of lime juice. ONE DROP!
This was absolutely the worst bowl of Pho I’ve ever had or I’ve ever had given to me for takeout.
There was no one in the restaurant and no one waiting for soup. I was the only one with an order, and it seems like they went out of their way to give me the worst ingredients, as well as going out of their way to be unfriendly, with children always working the cash register who have no social skills and no semblance of customer service or professionalism, and to top it off no Sriracha or hoisin was given to add flavor to this bowl of blah.
After two horrible experiences I will never come here again.
Back across the river for me to patronize the Vietnamese row on Rigsby road off of Horsepen, where consistently you’ll find good Vietnamese food that is no longer found at Viet Huong

I live in the Bon Air area of Richmond on the south side of the river and for 10 years I’ve had to cross the river to obtain what I crave on a weekly basis; delicious pho!
I am so thankful that Viet Huong opened and I no longer have to make the trek across the river for the best pho in Richmond.
Everything I’ve had here from the broken rice beef and pork dishes To the Goi Cuon rice paper spring rolls to the beef pho has been fantastic with never a disappointment.
You will not find a broth any more flavorful than you’ll find here, nor will you find a more friendly welcoming staff and comfortable warm environment.
If you live on the North side of the river I would suggest coming over here to sample this fantastic Vietnamese cuisine. And they have the best boba tea and smoothies!
Now that they’ve reopened after the Covid shutdown the quality of the food is horrible, the establishment is dirty, there’s always an overflowing trash can at the main entrance, there was a kid waiting on my table which was okay until I seen him bring a glass of water to another table with the same gloves on that he just finished bussing a different table with.
Honestly I realize Covid has a lot of businesses running things differently but some of their changes are unacceptable especially during these sensitive times.
Hopefully they’ll clean things up soon.
On a good day, the Pho is amazing, probably the best in Richmond. Customer service needs improvement, but not horrible. Will definitely be back, just ask for a pitcher of water they never bring refills.
Maybe their vegetarian stuff is ok but I would never get anything meat based from here.
