Manuel was absolutely outstanding and made our entire dining experience unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, he was warm, attentive, and genuinely friendly. He knew the menu extremely well, gave great recommendations, and checked on us at just the right moments without ever being intrusive. His professionalism combined with his positive attitude really stood out—it felt like he truly cared about making sure we had a great time. Service like his is rare, and he deserves major recognition. I would absolutely ask for Manuel again on my next visit!

We ate at Denny’s San José, which is conveniently attached to the Holiday Inn, after our flight was canceled and we received airline vouchers. Probably the best hotel restaurant we’ve eaten at!
We ordered the Slam Pancake Breakfast and the Slam Waffle — both were delicious with huge portions that definitely filled us up. We also tried the Brisket Skillet. It was heavy on the cheese, very light on the brisket, and definitely not heavy on the mac as expected. It also didn’t look much like the picture on the menu, but it still tasted decent.
Be prepared — prices here are very expensive compared to typical Costa Rican meals. In fact, this was the most expensive meal we had during our entire week in Costa Rica, but the airline vouchers helped cover some of the cost.
Service was very slow, so allow some extra time, but if you’re staying at the Holiday Inn or stuck near the airport, Denny’s is a convenient, satisfying option with classic American comfort food.

I came for lunch just before noon and everything was perfect — calm atmosphere, spotless restaurant, and truly exceptional service. Luis, our waiter, was amazing, attentive without hovering, kind, and genuinely welcoming. What really stood out was that both Luis and his manager came by to ask if there was anything they could improve — something you almost never experience anymore, especially from both staff and management.
The food was delicious — honestly nothing like Denny’s in the States. This felt like going to a Denny’s in a nice U.S. suburb in the early 2000s, when cleanliness, great customer service, and pride in the experience really mattered.
Huge compliments to the whole team. This location sets the bar very high. I will definitely be back.
