Such a cute little coffee shop right outside of Chicago! The downstairs café has a cozy vibe, great drinks, and a really welcoming atmosphere. Upstairs, they have an event space where they host live music, karaoke, and open mic events. I saw a really good local band play here, their name is constantheadacheisaband. It’s the perfect spot to grab a coffee, relax, or enjoy a show. This place is definitely worth a visit!

I’ve been coming to Ashburys for several years, and while I’m not a hard regular I’d come every other week or so for the tiramisu and a drink. The food and drinks are great, and I really used to like coming here. I hate to give the place 3 stars but after trying to enjoy myself multiple times, the same employee just ruins the experience and we likely won’t be back again. The dude who was working here Monday Dec 29th at 3 PM has the absolute worst attitude.
I hate singling out specific employees in reviews because everyone has a bad day, and if this were a one-time thing I wouldn’t have bothered. But I hate risking getting him as a barista, because he seems to loathe working here and acts like people ordering coffee and getting locked in an Iron Maiden are the same thing.
My roommate ordered a Jack Frost latte, and the barista acknowledged his order and then proceeded to putz around, make weird faces at my roommate while we stood and waited, and then wandered off to side to sit and crack open a canned drink. We waited a few more minutes before another set of customers came in and we figured it was another bad visit and left without his coffee or a refund because it wasn’t worth another unpleasant interaction with the guy. It’s a shame because the drink he made today was pretty good.
I never have these interactions with the other baristas, who are always very kind, so I have no idea what his deal is. I don’t even want him to get in trouble! Maybe someone can just remind him he’s making coffee, not getting drafted into the war.

I definitely felt the Willow Springs haunted vibe in this coffee shop. If you have a sweet tooth you will love it here. The flavors are endless from English Toffee Mocha to German Chocolate Mocha. Muffins and Donuts to choose from. Cool vibe.

Ended up coming here to get out of the cold because my I had to get off the train due to someone dying on the train track. RIP.
The people here were really nice. My phone was a 14% and they let me borrow their charger due to my circumstance.
The place is cozy and the music is soothing. Plus the chocolate cake was decent as well. Happy this place was close by or I would’ve been freezing my ass off.

Lovely little hang out spot. It’s giving “friends” vibes, but with an alternative / indie twist. And the French silk pie was to die for. SO GOOD.

Really enjoyed my first visit here! Stopped in for coffee, a sandwich, and to do some work on my laptop. Great spot to chill, easygoing, and welcoming. Definitely great spot for a solo visit or social visit, either one.

This place used to be really cool until recently, I have been coming to Ashbary for two years but ever since new management has taken over some of their new staff is rude. Also the place can get cramped upstairs and for how much to pay to get in to the upstairs bit is expensive, it shouldn’t be ten for a show maybe like five or free, it can also get crammed easily, overall a 2 out of 20

I went in today, ordered a panini for there and coffee. I’m told to stick around for the coffee and that the food will be brought to me. Coffee came out and was yummy. After I ordered a huge group came in ordering food and drinks as well. It was iabout 25 minutes before the woman (only person making the food, working very hard!) brought out 2 sandwiches one was the same one I ordered and one wasn’t. I speak up and I say I ordered one of those. She explains that’s its not mine and mine is coming up. Okay period, I wait even longer and then 2 more of the same sandwiches I ordered are called out and brought to the large group that came in after me. So I go up to ask about the status of my order, one worker goes to check and another lady behind the counter tells me to be patient? Okay word I have been the whole time the worker who went to check on my food comes back with a sandwich wrapped to go? I ask why and he tells me they called it out and no one said anything so they wrapped it up. I’ve worked in multiple restaurants and know how annoying it is so I just left without saying anything because I get it I guess. I open the box in the car and it’s a cold sandwich no chips that I paid for and 2 cookies? Okay this definitely isn’t mine. I go back in and left with a refund and no food. (He still tried to insinuate it’s my fault) Thank god for the refund but they were really gonna give me cold food that wasn’t mine and blame me for not saying anything but when I did they told me just to keep waiting? Was hoping to chill there eat lunch and get some work done but that was soo weird. Its really funny because thy have multiple signs about how “they are always right”. Will definitely never go back and would warn others against stopping by.

My brother and I first visited Ashbary Coffee House a few days ago. My brother is a Marine Corps veteran who served in Iraq in 2003 and has a legally protected service animal for PTSD.
During our first visit, everything was great. A staff member noticed the service animal, treated us respectfully, and the service and atmosphere were excellent. He even gave us a punch card for a free coffee, which made us want to return.
We came back today, just minutes ago, and had a completely different experience. As soon as we stepped inside, a man behind the counter yelled, “We don’t want dogs in here.” My brother calmly explained that it was his service animal, but the man repeated it more forcefully and then walked away.
We felt extremely uncomfortable and unwelcome, so we left.
This was not a pet or a stray dog—this is a trained service animal that my brother relies on daily due to PTSD from his military service. Being treated this way, especially after a positive first experience, was disappointing and upsetting.
I hope management addresses this, because no veteran—or anyone with a service animal—should ever be treated like this.

Amazing service, great food, Carrot cake is top-notch, and the butter scotch cookie is just the best. Highly recommend going here for any occasion. 🙂
