Amazing Peking roast duck exactly like how it’s done in Beijing. I’ve not had it for 6-7 years and it’s a trip down memory lane for me. The duck is as authentic as it gets and I highly recommend it.

I’m reducing 1 star for food because I feel that almost all of the food we’ve ordered is lukewarm. This place has so much potential and the experience can be easily elevated by serving the food piping hot. I hope that they can improve their processes so that they do their food justice.

Wonderful Chinese food, Wonderdul experience:
This was our second visit to Tien Bistro.
Tonight we ordered the Eggplant in a special sauce, it’s soooo amazing and delicious.
The eggplant is cut diagonally and pieces are just right and melt in your mouth, literally. We also had the beef in a chili sauce, so tender,
cooked perfectly, really tasty. We also ordered the.wontons filled with beef and onion, it’s very succulent and the sauce is very complementary. It’s home made.
So great to have such a jewel of a restaurant close to where we live. No need to drive down to Chinatown!

Stopped by Tian Bistro for lunch. They’re known for their Peking duck, which requires a one-day notice, so we did not get to try it this time. We went with the salted egg yolk tofu, dry-fried cauliflower, and xiao long bao, and everything was decent and enjoyable. The space was modern and spacious, and overall a pleasant spot for Chinese food in downtown Evanston.

We reserved a half duck ahead of our Valentine’s Day here. Neat that they had live music. The duck skin could’ve been crispier and overall the duck could’ve been salted more, though we did enjoy the thin wrappers. The pork and chive dumplings were really good. As was the cucumber salad. Could be fun to come back again with a group of 4 or larger to try more dishes.

Amazing experience! The Peking duck was carved tableside and was so delicious. Perfectly crispy skin and flavorful meat. Great service too!

I have always been curious about the peking duck at lao tian but if you have seen their space, it is tiny and isn’t exactly suited for that venture. Hence, I was glad to see the opening of Tian Bistro, a full-service restaurant where you can sit down and have a whole meal.

The duck needs to be reserved at least a day in advanced but the planning is worth it for the authentic experience. We came a bit earlier than our reservation time so we had the duck broth with napa cabbage served at the beginning of our meal instead of the end. It was a great both: delicate and comforting. The duck arrived whole on a cart and chef Tian sliced it tableside. Thin cuts of juicy duck were layered onto a platter. The skin was glossy and crispy, which is incredibly difficult to pull off given how much technique it takes to fully render the fat and dry the skin properly. The duck was rich and tasted clean with absolutely no gaminess. Paper-thin pancakes came warm in a steaming basket. Making your own rolls meant everything can be adjusted to taste. Assembly was easy and fun: pancake brushed with bean sauce, duck, cucumbers, scallion, pickled radish, then roll and devour.

Very good for Midwest standards and still respectable even for those familiar with the real deal.

As a native Beijing-er who’s been living in the US for ten years, I can say this is one of the best Peking duck I’ve had in the US! Other dishes were delicious too. Also love the great environment and service. Highly recommend!

Peking Duck is the must!! Make sure you reserved it when you make reservation because there are limited availability each day. Food prices are reasonable service is great. Only thing is that the restaurant is cold, might be because of very high ceilings. Overall is Great!!

Spacious with a bar and table options for couples, small groups, or large families. Service was great, they stopped by a couple times to make sure we had what we needed. All the dishes we tried were delicious – no small feat for a brand new restaurant. I recommend the green beans and the sliced beef with green peppercorn – not too spicy. The beef and tripe in chili sauce is also my favorite but it’s too spicy for some people. The sesame chicken and dumplings were popular with the kids – not at all spicy and has some veggies. We didn’t try the duck, but everyone who did order it looked happy with it. A fun new Evanston restaurant, will be back for the duck!
