Had a lovely meal at Rajdoot tonight to celebrate my birthday with my friends. I got a cake and a candle and our waiter Sam (I hope I spelt that right) was so attentive. I had some leftover sauce and peshwari naan and he went out of his way to not only bring cake but to give me extra naan AND paneer with my sauce! Will definitely recommend to anyone who is visiting Manchester 🙂

The food was exceptional and the set menu for our larger group worked perfectly. There was an amazing selection of both meat and vegetarian dishes, beautifully presented and full of flavour. Our guests were genuinely impressed.

The staff looked after us brilliantly! Although the restaurant was very quiet for a Wednesday night in February, it actually made for a relaxed and comfortable setting which suited our group perfectly.

Thank you to the staff for all their help in planning our event. They went above and beyond to make sure everything was exactly as we needed it to be.

Our guests had a wonderful evening and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this restaurant for business dinners or special occasions. Thank you!

The Rajdoot, just like visiting an old, cherished friend

I guess you could say a neglected old friend because I hadn’t visited the Rajdoot since 1976, which is fifty years ago now! I had such fond memories of the old restaurant in South King Street; I was very surprised I hadn’t visited since. I was a relatively poor student back then and that particular dinner was a lavish splurge with its silver leaf Mughlai dishes, but worth every penny. In the old days the waiters wore extravagant and colourful turbans, and the opulent setting recreated the experience of visiting a royal residence in Rajasthan. I hadn’t visited India back then, but I have on a number of occasions since, and the Rajdoot has got it spot on. It’s still the same now in its current location in Albert Square, it was like visiting an old friend in a much-loved setting. In the past I wasn’t a vegetarian, but I was visiting with the people I dined with all those years ago – that was precisely the point. As well as being a vegetarian, I have a few other dietary requirements, but both Suman and Sant responded to my request to provide me with a special Rajdoot style dinner despite the complications, and they exceeded my expectations. The starters and main courses were sumptuous, full flavoured and delicately spiced. The tandoor is still being put to excellent use. My friends were able to choose from the Rajdoot signature dishes, which they enjoyed enormously. It was a splendid evening with brilliant friendly service, we all left the restaurant full, happy, and satisfied, having had a truly memorable evening. Needless to say, I won’t be leaving it fifty years before my next visit!

Visited for the first time at lunchtime today having travelled down from Preston for a small family gathering. A very warm welcome on arrival, down the stairs and into the plush bar seating area where we had drinks and time to peruse the menu before ordering. Friendly & efficient service throughout & the food was excellent. The restaurant was quiet which apparently is the norm for lunchtime, but this made for a very relaxed and enjoyable experience. If your normal lunch spot is one of those frantic, bustling places do yourself a favour and chill out at the Rajdoot – we’d definitely be regulars if we still lived locally!

Paulicarus took us to this super traditional restaurant for the £15 lunch time special. We had one chicken and also one lamb starter. ( also a third veggie option is available) Then a lamb and a chicken main. ( also a third veggie option .) All washed down with pints of Cobra at £6.50. A 10% service charge is added. We really enjoyed everything. Well cooked and deliciously spiced. Excellent service. Sat on Albert Square by the Town Hall. A basement restaurant well worth trying.

Unbelievable Indian food, with a nepalese twist. I’d go as far as saying it’s the best indian restaurant in Manchester, including greater manchester! The staff are extremely attentive, the decor and environment was very authentic and they even kept your bowls of curries hot with traditional food warmers in the centre of the table! It was a great atmosphere, not too loud, not too quiet, especially for a weekday!

What an incredible find! We decided to eat at Rajdoot Tandoori on a last-minute whim and it turned out to be the best decision.

From the moment we walked in, the service was absolutely amazing. The staff made us feel so comfortable and looked after throughout the evening.

And the food? Simply delicious. Every dish was full of flavour, beautifully presented, and clearly made with care. You can really taste the quality and authenticity in every bite.

If you’re in Manchester and debating where to eat, don’t hesitate! Rajdoot Tandoori is a must-visit. We’ll definitely be back!

This is hands down the BEST Indian restaurant in Manchester!
Nothing else compares—seriously, it’s in a league of its own!! This place is a must-visit, a hidden gem.

The food? Incredible. Every bite was bursting with flavour—easily the best curry I’ve had in Manchester, or infact one of the best I”ve had anywhere. I don’t usually leave reviews, but this place is so good, I had to say something!

The restaurant itself is underground and looks like something out of a museum (check out my pics!). It’s beautifully decorated with Indian antiques and traditional decor—it’s worth visiting just to take it all in. I’ve uploaded some photos from my 2025 visit, but they honestly don’t do it justice. It’s stunning.

The staff were super friendly. We even chatted about how I’d first visited 8 years ago when I used to live in Manchester, and now, revisiting in 2025, it’s still going strong—because no other place comes close. That says everything, its been here ages!

We ordered a selection of curries and they were outstanding. A perfect balance of spices, flavours, and richness. The naan breads were fluffy and delicious too. My partner kept saying how fab it was and we both left so happy.

I’ll definitely be returning—again and again. Massive thanks to the team for such an amazing meal. If you’re reading this, do yourself a favour and check out this underground treasure. Highly, highly recommended!

Thank you for the amazing meal!!!! See you again next time I visit Manchester.

Lovely dinner for our work Christmas meal. Great service, lovely seating area when you walk in, we were asked to review the menus and place order, and then we’ll be seated.

Service was excellent and no issues with food coming.

Food overall very nice, the saag gohst was awesome, favorite dish of the night.

The chicken on the mixed grill was also great.

Would recommend.
