From the moment we walked in, the place felt cozy, welcoming, and nicely decorated. Right away, I was impressed with our waitress. Her customer service was truly a step above—attentive, kind, and genuinely caring, which is something you don’t see as often these days.
Before coming, I looked over the menu online and saw they had paella. At that point, I stopped reading because I already knew what I was ordering. When it came to the table, it was a huge portion loaded with seafood and chicken—shrimp, clams, mussels, and just the right amount of spice. Honestly, it was one of the best paellas I’ve had outside of the Basque Block in downtown Boise.
Everyone in our family really enjoyed their meals as well, and to top it off, our server surprised us with a tiramisu for the birthday celebration, which was such a thoughtful touch.
This is absolutely a place we’ll be coming back to—even if the only thing I ever order here is the paella. Highly recommend!
However, we spent about $60 on 4 cocktails that were sake based. They do not have a full liquor license and it seems unfair to charge the same price for a cocktail that would have hard alcohol in it. We also ordered the $20 chocolate cake TO GO- which came with gelato- so I checked with our server to make sure it was on the side (just in case it melted by the time we got home). Which she confirmed it was. Getting it to go, I guess I assumed it was going to be in a separate container? Instead we got home and it was melted- all over the teeniest tiniest $20 cake ever!
We heard alot of good things about this restaurant, but unfortunately, we did not see what all the hype was about!
Inside, there are open ceilings and hard floors, making it very noisy and somewhat difficult to talk. Our hostess was going to seat us near the door, at a high table, but was gracious enough to give us a booth when we asked for it. I suggest you put a request in for a booth when you make your reservation.
Our young female server was very nice, essentially a native Idahoan that lives in Star, the same as the four of us(our CA friends just purchased a home in Star in the subdivision next to us). She gave us good, friendly service. A woman came to check on us also, perhaps the manager? I thought that this was a nice touch.
I had the sausage, pepperoni, and mushroom pizza. My wife had the chicken and walnut salad with French onion soup. Our friends had the paella and something else that I can’t recall. We also had the fried zucchini appetizer.
My pizza reminded me of my time in Italy. I do prefer my crust to be a little crispier, and this was soft and difficult to eat with my hands unless I folded it. Still, it was very good. My wife liked the salad but, even though she knew that French onion soup comes with cheese on top, the soup itself tasted cheesy to her and so she did not finish it. I, on the other hand, thought it was very good and enjoyed the rest. Our friends liked their entrees as well.
We will definitely be back to Nick’s to try something else.
Our steak was ordered as medium rare, came out well done and was tasteless enough that only maybe $5.00 of a $44.00 steak. Our waiter had stopped by and noticed the error….was amazing and tried to rectify with the manager whom stopped by for a “drive by”.
When the bill came a glass of wine had been taken off, which was nice but surely didn’t cover the steak, the waiter was happy to readdress the complaint with the manager….she came back by and offered to take 50 percent off which we felt was an improvement however in the end overall did not feel that we were taken care of enough to be a return customer.
If the manager had offered straight away to take care of the meal this review would have been very different. I hate doing these reviews but felt it was necessary.
