Mushroom Salad – 10/10 – I loved this dish and have never eaten anything like it. The mushrooms look strange but are super good. They are thin and crunchy and make a snapping texture. The dressing was really good too lots of garlic and decent spice to open up the nostrils. I have no spice tolerance and was able to handle this so probably not spicy for most of you. Not used to eating garlic a lot but there was bunch. Would come back for this.
Spicy Oil Noodle – 6/10 – I ordered this less spicy so I don’t know if it affected the taste but this dish was kind of bland. It had some good toppings but really there was no sauce. There was a watery broth at the bottom with some oil but not much flavor. I ended up mixing the mushroom salad in here for more taste. It was not bad but not the best. However I loved the broad noodles and quality of the noodles was good. Just lacking flavor. Next time I will try the veggie noodles.
I would recommend this place it’s very quick and people kept coming and going. Saw them also hand pulling the noodles which is a good sign. I laid 20 for both items which I think is fair and on par with other places.
Armed with recommended dishes from my brother, we were unphased by the vast offerings in the menu and placed order in no time:
C8. Cold Skin Noodles $9.95. This is a unique appetizer from Northern China. This was the second time in my life that I tried this dish. It was far better than my first experience. It was refreshingly cold, and the flavor wasn’t as heavy as it looked. The texture of the noodle was elastic and springy, very pleasing to the mouth. Highly recommended.
N1. Signature Lan Zhou Beef Noodles $10.95. I guarantee you will see at least one bowl of this noodle soup on every table. While I have had this dish many times through Chinatown and Flushing, the broth had to be one of the best. The amount of protein left much to be desired, however. Only 4 thin slices of beef, that’s a bit pathetic. Other than that, all other aspects were on point.
N8. Pan Fried Noodles (lamb) $16.95. OK, don’t be fooled by the name – we were. We love pan fried noodles from Hong Kong / Cantonese restaurants – that thin crispy fried noodles with thick flavorful sauce and meat poured over it… No, this was stir fried, essentially a lo mien. So this was a disappointment, but the saving grace was that we picked lamb for the protein. When was the last time you had lamb lo mien?
Service was excellent. The wait staff entered orders on their hand held tablets, and checked out with them as well. But, remember to bring cash to get a 3% discount.
I can’t wait to come back and try the pork and fennel dumplings.
The Lanzhou Beef Noodles were delicious, the flavor was well-infused into the hand-pulled noodles.
The Chinese Hamburger had soft and tasty buns. Both lamb and pork fillings were delicious. The lamb filling had a richer flavor than the pork.
The Meat Dumplings in Spicy Sauce were a favorite among most of us.
The Lamb Kebab Skewers were also good.
