Smash Jibarito is a Chicago-based jibarito smash burger concept founded in 2022. What started as a pop-up touring the city’s brewery and bar scene—serving one signature burger and chips—quickly grew into a local favorite. Smash Jibarito has served at major festivals like Lollapalooza and Sueños, as well as community events including Puerto Rican Fest and Sangria Fest. After a 2024 residency at Desert Hawk Bar, Smash Jibarito opened its first brick-and-mortar location in Humboldt Park, bringing bold Puerto Rican–inspired flavors home.

WTH?!?! Sooooo good – already planning my next dining experience. My burger patty was crispy AND juicy – how? A plantain bun – what?
My only critique was the chips, as they were too crispy for my liking (almost overcooked/burnt), but who cares… The main dish still has me salivating 3 days later. The puff could’ve used more meat, but what can I say, I’m a meat eater.
RUN to this establishment and place an order. You will not be disappointed! Trust me. ☺️

This was my first Jibarito experience so I don’t have anything to compare it to, but for my first one, it was excellent. The plantain was crunchy and soft and held together throughout eating the whole thing. The meat was juicy and worked well with all the toppings. I would say that it could have used a little more salt, but that’s about all that I would change.
The chips complimented the burger quite well too!

I was able to try all three smash burger styles and both the plantain and pan sobao “buns” with my family. We all agreed that the Aye El Amor with the plantain bun was the best burger by far. The Aye El Amor comes with their house pickled peppers and cheese sauce which are both truly so delicious (I usually don’t even like peppers).
The plantain bun beat out the pan sobao bun by a long shot. Not that the pan was bad by any means, but it’s hard to compare the two when the tostones were so flavorful.
Safe to say you should absolutely try Smash Jibarito at their new Humbolt Park location!

Delicious burgers! The plantain “buns” work so much better than I would have expected. Loaded chips are fantastic, too. Smash Jibarito is legit and totally lives up to the hype!

This burger just slaps! Perfect balance of sweet/savory with rich fresh beef flavor. Everything is quality and fresh. Great friendly staff who love what they do. I need to go back and try the pica puff!

Please run don’t walk to this place. EVERYTHING I MEAN EVERYTHING was amazing from customer service, to the ambience and of course the food. My husband and I needed to try everything on the menu and we did just that and WOW!!!!! The smashed plantain is a game changer in the smash burger world. Their take on the pizza puff that they call a pica puff was delicious. So like I said before run don’t walk to this place.

Simply scrumptious! My boyfriend had been raving about their jibaritos, and I finally had the opportunity to come and try one myself. Definitely did not disappoint. I hope to come back soon!

Absolute fire!! Staff is extremely nice and make it easy to make a choice. They let me try the sauce I was unsure about and truly made me feel welcome and the sandwich…. Bomb.com you can’t go wrong will be returning soon
