The food is delicious. Portion sizes are right on. Prices are reasonable. Atmosphere is great. Service was quick and courteous and they got our order perfectly correct on the first try.
The chips are a bit on the crunchy side, and the salsa is decent but could be chunkier. It was not overly loud inside.
This is not a sports bar, so don’t expect to see TVs in every corner with some sort of game or match on.
Parking is better than you would expect for North Kansas City with a small parking lot right next to the restaurant as well as the angled parking on the street that NKC is famous for. No dedicated motorcycle parking that I saw.
I did not have a chance to use the rest room so I can’t comment on how clean they are, but the rest of the restaurant seemed quite clean and the floors were not sticky or slippery.
On a Monday evening around 6pm this place was not crowded, but it also wasn’t empty. We got our food more quickly than I would have expected. I enjoyed my Burrito Texano more than I thought I would. Big flavor in it and the side enchilada was delicious, too. I ate more than I should have.
What else is there to say? I will be back, and I will recommend it for sure.

Hands down my favorite Mexican restaurant in Kansas City. Best margaritas and fajitas in town. My partner and I come here at least once a week and the atmosphere + service have been nothing but great every time. Can’t recommend enough.

We visited on a Sunday evening and sampled the street tacos – carnitas and steak. They were okay – the meat was a little tough and not very warm. We did enjoy the sides, especially the rice and the salsa. Service was fast and good. We’d give them another try but we’re not in a rush to come back.

This place is AMAZING! My family and I visit at least once a week. They already know our order when we walk in. Chips are nice and crunchy and the salsa is in point. The steak is flavorful and mouthwatering. Service is friendly and fast. Also the price is reasonable compared to other places. We love El Canelo!!

We are sitting in the restaurant, finished eating over 30 minutes ago. Waiting on the waitress to stop and check on our table – it has been well over 30 minutes since she’s been by. Beverage glasses have been empty for a good while.
We would like the bill & a to go box for an enchilada.
Service on a weekday has been much better. We arrived at 4:30pm (Saturday) its 5:58pm. I’ve been finished for over 40 minutes.
Can’t get her to glance this way.

Vegetarian fajitas were pretty good, although they were a little stingy with the squash and mushrooms compared to the meat in my husband’s dish.
Pinto beans were tasty

I was visiting a friend at NKCH and chose this place after we left. I had a good house margarita on the rocks. I ordered shrimp Lopez which was delicious! My kid got steak Jalisco which came on a sizzling plate for flair (kid thought it was cool). I tasted the steak and it was really good. Well seasoned. Chips and salsa are house made and good too. Will come back!

The building is clean and there is a pleasant decor. The staff was not rude, but not overly welcome either. The chips and salsa were awesome! The meal was delivered quickly after ordering. Honestly the down side is that my food was bland and covered in a lot of lettuce. The taco meat was not flavored at all. The chalupa was not a traditional chalupa. It was underwhelming honestly.

Sorry no pics, trust me it’s good! Husband and I have a go-to spot closer to home but came here with friends once and came back 2 weeks later! We love the price point and the food was just as delicious as our go-to spot. It’s authentic Mexican food, and my burrito Jalisco was stuffed full of shredded pork. The other time we were here the husband ordered the alambres and it was more than he could eat in one meal!
There is lots of seating and they should be able to accommodate many group sizes. In fact, there’s 2 whole sections so I imagine if you called ahead they could manage a small party of people. Don’t quote me, I’m just observing what I see. Only 1 stall bathroom.
