Reviews
Pros: the atmosphere is nice, dim lighting for a romantic setting, clean tables, waiters dressed to impress, escargot tasted good/thick yummy sauce. Soup was tasty, mesquite filet 12oz was tasty!
Cons: table silverware was dirty upon sitting down, butter for bread ice cold can’t spread it – should of been left out 30 minutes before opening to make it soft & spreadable, escargot was luke warm & no garlic/butter bread (should serve it hot on plate should be hot). The odd tuna plate with salami /cheese & olives was out of place and made no sense with our dishes ordered. Does nothing for your pallet before your main course. It was a waste as we didn’t eat it. My filet 12oz was brought out not the temp I ordered. I noticed immediately as the waiter put the plate in front of me as you could see the meat wiggle alot! So I cut into it, and it was very very rare! Probably temp was 135. I ordered mine medium well temp 150/155. The waiter was close by and heard me tell my son it was cooked wrong. Waiter looked and immediately said it was way under done. Well he should of checked before bringing it to my table! Positive was he immediately tried to fix it, brought the owner out, and they cooked me a new steak. That one was delicious!! My hot totti was not made right – was Luke warm, no cinnamon stick, no lemon, and very little honey! Bummer. The other plate of spaghetti & meat balls was mediocre, meat balls had very little flavor. The chocolate suicide dessert was amazing. For 2 people it was $127.00. I expected much better tasting food, cleaner silverware, and better execution on cooking temps for this kinda price.
Once we were seated, the waiter promptly came over and greeted us. He was great, no complaints on his end or customer service.
The bread was burnt that was brought to the table, the food is sub par, I was confused by the mound of tuna and olives on the plate as an appetizer with salami and cheese. The salad is literally cut up romaine with olive oil and Parmesan cheese. The main course we ordered was the seafood pasta for 2 it was very heavy and rich and our sauce was broke. Both of our lobster was very rubbery and over cooked as well. By this time I’d lost my appetite and took nearly the whole dish to go, which they do box up very neatly for you. This is the second time we have been there. My first experience wasn’t great either. We spent $165 and I doubt I will ever return. They do give all the ladies a red rose as they leave which is a sweet gesture, it is very dark and moody in there you can barely see across the room. Like I said the waiter was kind prompt professional and ontop of our table. I give his service a 5 star review. Otherwise, I am extremely disappointed about this date night at Nellos.
We came back to where it all began. Nello’s helped start the fire—so tonight wasn’t just dinner, it was a full-circle moment.
The bread? Soft and crisp.
The prosciutto and melon? A little gamey, but good.
The chicken piccata was lemony perfection.
The alfredo? Creamy, grilled just right—solid 4.5, maybe even 5.
Even the salad held its own.
The antipasto lost us with tuna juice bleeding across the plate.
Wine list wasn’t offered—we had to ask. They didn’t have my wife’s choice, subbed it with Cupcake Moscato, then charged $11 a glass for a $9 bottle.
But the service was otherwise tight.
Drinks never went dry.
Course progression? Elegant.
And just when we thought the old-school charm might carry it through…
The illusion fell when the check came.
Overall not too bad. Might go back may not who knows.
We visited on a Wednesday evening and were seated pretty quickly.
Our waiter, Guido, took our drink order then came back with some warm Italian bread and a small anti pasta plate.
Nice start!
We ordered dinner and the Caesar Salad – which the make table side. Very traditional.
The salad making was great – the salads large and incredible taste! Classic Caesar dressing made with EVOO, egg yolk and anchovies!
Finally our main course (we split a veal parmigiana) which was very tasty. 2 nice veal patties with cheese and delicious marinara sauce, a small side of penne and some crisp tender zucchini slices.
We we too stuffed for dessert, but from looking at a few that went by our table – they looked perfect.
