We made reservations for a Wednesday at 6pm. From the moment we sat down, the staff made us feel welcome. Our server was attentive and genuinely knowledgeable about the menu, guiding us through our choices without rushing us.
We started with the Fritto Misto to share—crispy calamari with lemon, pepperoncini, roasted peppers, arugula, lemon aioli, and gremolata. A fantastic way to begin the meal. For her entrée, my wife ordered the prime filet mignon medium, and it arrived cooked to absolute perfection, paired with a beautiful garlic spinach. I went with the Chicken Parmesan—a tender breaded cutlet topped with creamy red sauce and melted mozzarella, finished with roasted tomatoes and served alongside rigatoni. Divine is the only word for it.
We couldn’t resist dessert, and the blood orange gelato did not disappoint. The perfect light, refreshing finish.
Throughout our dinner, the manager stopped by a couple of times to check on us—a small touch that speaks volumes about the care they put into the dining experience here.
We left full, happy, and beyond satisfied. If you haven’t tried Fontana Di Vino yet, do yourself a favor and make a reservation. Downtown Davidson has a new favorite!
From the moment we were seated, it was clear our server was not adequately trained. We placed a drink order shortly after sitting down, then waited approximately thirty minutes with nothing arriving at the table. No check in, no explanation, no acknowledgment. We eventually had to get up and track the server down ourselves, only to learn our drink order had been completely lost.
After reordering drinks, it took another fifteen minutes just to place our food order. Throughout this entire time, the server was largely absent and appeared unaware of how long we had been waiting.
The most serious issue involved my wife’s food allergies, which we clearly explained when ordering. Despite this, her meal was prepared incorrectly in a way that could have made her very sick. This is not a minor mistake. Food allergies require attention and care. After waiting roughly forty minutes for our food, she had to sit there and watch the rest of us eat while they attempted to remake her meal. The remake took so long that we finished our meals before hers finally arrived, leaving her to eat alone. That alone was unacceptable.
As if that were not enough, our entire party was shocked by how small the portion sizes were. They were laughably small, especially considering the pricing. My cioppino was barely more than a few bites and was smaller than what many places would consider an appetizer. When I got home, I actually made myself a sandwich because I was still hungry. That says everything about the value.
When we asked about dessert, we were told that desserts were listed on the small sheets on the table and the server simply walked away again. Another twenty minutes passed with no follow up. At that point we were beyond frustrated and had to hunt him down just to get our check so we could leave.
Despite serving a meal that could have caused a serious allergic reaction and delivering an experience filled with delays and mistakes, there was no offer to comp the incorrect dish, no manager visit, and no real attempt to make things right.
I understand this restaurant is new and I truly wanted to give them grace, but new does not excuse poor training, lack of communication, disregard for allergies, or charging premium prices for portions that leave guests hungry. This experience was over the top bad. We will not be back.
I had the mushroom pasta with sausage, others had chicken parmigiana over pasta and veal parmigiana. All were tasty, however somewhat dry. Suggest finishing with a scoop of pasta water just before plating to keep tasty sauce.
The scotch pictured was excellent but the surprise charge on the bill of $1.50 for ice was…there should be a note on the table or told in advance. Place was fully packed second half of meal.
I asked if they had a military discount but they do not. However, the manager came over to discuss a very nice and appreciated option.
This was one the the best 1 month openings I have been too. We need to support Fontana for their good experience and service.
We started with the Polenta pour, and the Frito Misto (crispy calamari). Both were excellent, and the tableside polenta presentation was a fun and an impressive touch.
Since it was our first visit, we all tried different pasta dishes. The standout favorite, where the fungi Campanelli and the cavatelli Vaongole-both dishes were full of flavor. We selected a bottle of red wine (Syrah/Merlot/Cabernet blend) from there many great options.
For dessert, the Blood Orange sorbet was incredible, especially alongside the chocolate cake. A perfect finish!
Our server, Gaylen, was outstanding-attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. The entire team who delivered dishes, refreshed plates, kept water glasses filled and changed out silverware, contributed to a seamless dining experience.
We are already looking forward to our next visit, especially to try the Porchetta chop chop. A fantastic first impression all around.
