Brothers in law Jesse and Laurance are bringing some variety to the late night food scene in Missoula. Whiz Kid makes the famous no fuss cheesesteak (or cheeseshroom) sandwich you desire! We use only Amoroso rolls direct from Philadelphia, to anchor our cheesesteak in its hometown roots. With this iconic bread as a base, combined with the best ingredients available in Montana, we craft a delicious sandwich unique to the Mountain West. We offer just a couple of sides to enhance your meal. First we have hand cut, fried corn chips seasoned with our very own blend of chili cheese spices. Second is a dill pickle. Enjoy them both to round it out and satisfy your cravings to the max! We look forward to feeding you!!!

Whiz Kid is sooooo good! It’s inside the Golden Rose – just a little tip for you to find it. Order at the bar, eat there or take with you. The cheesesteak sandwiches were some of the best I have ever had. We also ordered the potatoes and they were awesome! Bartender was fun and friendly. We took it to go for lunch and the food came out really fast. Highly recommend this little gem in downtown!!

Great place to get a Cheesesteak! Whiz Kid can be accessed from the Locals Bar or Golden Rose as well as online via Doordash or their website. I found ordering through Locals to be nice as there are places to sit if deciding to dine in. Come hungry as they do not have containers for leftovers. First experience was a success and the food was all delicious. I will definitely be back!

As a native of South Jersey, cheesesteaks are the oxygen one breathes. The blood of the local runs thick with wiz of the cheese and friend onions are the breath mint of choice. The debate over Pat’s or Geno’s (and the outside lunatic boosting Donkey’s) is everyday discourse. Whiz Kid cheesesteaks proudly enters the pantheon of these heavyweights with a sandwich so good, you’d think you just got off the L and ordered one wiz wit. Highest compliment and recommendation. Highest quality rolls and ingredients. I give you a hearty go Whiz Kid and Go Birds!

That was one of the best cheesesteak sandwiches I’ve ever had. Definitely best in Missoula. They have really tasty chunky fries, like a jojo, and homemade chips. Highly recommend trying both. We dined-in at the Golden Rose, which is a great place to have a beer with your sandwich. Although we were there for lunch and it was super chill to eat at the bar with a soda instead.

THE best cheesesteak I’ve ever had! Chefs choice with the two types of yellow cheese, I added shrooms and sweet peppers.
OMFG! Not to mention the spicy tomato ranch, which is made in house.
RIDONCULOUS!! If you’re in Missoula, it’s a must try! The bread is perfection – I got it to go and it perfectly held up 1.5 hours later.
Chef LG is a GENIUS!!

I tried to call to place an order. My order was, apparently, beyond their ability to cook in their kitchen. The ingredients were on-hand and easily accessible, but they did not have the willingness to cook the food to the customer’s specifications. You may think this is a trick, but all I asked for was mayonnaise to be on the bread before the meat was added so the meat and cheese could melt deliciously with the mayonnaise.

When the cook said, “no,” on the phone, I asked if they had mayo available. He insisted it could only be served on the side. I asked if he could just go get a packet and put it on, but he insisted that this would “knock off his whole flow.”

When I asked to speak to the manager, he also said they were not capable of adding the mayonnaise they have on hand to the sandwich. He said that if one customer asks for mayonnaise to be added, it is a slippery slope, implying that all customers will ask for sandwiches made the way they like them. I don’t really see how he believes this to be a valid point, but he was adamant in his belief.

Given that in the food service industry people have to change gloves and even use new utensils if people have allergies, the small amount of effort required for this request to be denied is mind-boggling.

The manager, also, chose to yell at me in front of the bar’s patrons publicly. After it was clear that I wasn’t getting anywhere with them, and after he yelled, “You need to shut up and listen…,” I made a dismissive raspberry sound and walked away waving to them. They would have probably spot in my food anyway.

Dinosaur Cafe, which is only 0.1 miles away from Whiz Kid, can make cheese steaks, even cheese steaks with one additional topping.
