12/28/2025- I love this business: I was so hungry. I had been in the ER for the entire day with my play sister. I literally ate breakfast, lunch and dinner out and this restaurant saved me!!! I ordered my sis, a cup of broccoli cheddar soup! I ordered me a hot tea, bowl of autumn squash, French bread, and harvest medley chicken salad…yum!!!

Ended up the ER because I ordered a Greek salad here yesterday that had the rind of an avocado at the bottom of my salad. Good thing I was already at the hospital when this happened. Apparently I am very allergic to avocados. Don’t trust this Panera if you have allergies.

The location within the Medstar Washington Hospital Center facility (located within the Bldg named Physicians Bldg) is smaller but helped in a pinch. The salads seemed pre-made. They offered desserts. There is outdoor seating as well as a small indoor dining area.

I always frequent Panera whenever i have my appointments. Today, i did my rapid pick up like normal. When i got home (after an hour in traffic), i go to enjoy my sandwich and…its not the sandwich i ordered. There are ham and swiss labels on the sandwich, but the sandwich is turkey or chicken, and doesnt have any of the toppings i was supposed to receive on my sandwich. Two stars because my soup was still hot. I will be contacting management after this review.

Because this is located within the hospital, it is fighting back against a lot of stressed out and weird people-drama. It makes for an unpleasant experience as a result. If you’re coming to grab food and go, great! But do not stick around unless you’re too tired and stressed to care.
E.g. a man begging for coffee was directed by a hospital provider to go to the cafeteria for coffee (since it is cheaper) and he created a fuss for “doubting his intelligence”. The same man, when gifted a coffee and cake from a different provider a bit later, ended up going to the counter and demanding more food for “getting his order wrong.”
It held up the line and was awkward to hear.
Another example on the same day, I was sitting at a table, working on my laptop, and a woman came up and sat down. She asked me to move my things and I said no. She then asked if I paid for the table and, if she had time, she would have called the manager… When I tried to speak with her or direct her to another free table, she would respond ‘huh’ and pretended to not hear me in response. When she left, she left her trash on the table so I cleaned up after her.
Again, food and coffee are fine!

Only reason I’m giving this Panera location a 5 star not because of the food, but because of the EXCELLENT customer service Abrahim Mitchum (Manager) always displays and never fails to put a smile on every time I go there. This is the reason I keep coming back and for the food of course. Other customers seem to know him well and this is probably because of his great qualities as a manager. Panera is lucky to have him.

The customer service ,the don’t respect customer. Even the don’t follow instructions when ordering the food.
I order Chipotle chicken avocado.

You BETTER tip them well, or they will destroy your order intentionally!!!
Always order the Madagascar Latte but only get my order correct when I add a tip! If not, you get drip decaf!!! It’s not like anyone even took my order! I used a machine! Like they don’t realize that they’re located in the hospital and that their customers may have to get blood pressure checked! I don’t care about not getting caffeine, but that drip coffee tasted like sewer water! I gladly walk across the street to the VA to get my coffee now. I refuse to ever visit this store again! It’s a shame because they sell some of my go-to’s!
This is the WORST Panera Bread location I’ve ever been to. Do yourself a favor and read some of their other reviews! Such low class people! They WILL tamper with food! I can’t wait until machines take over their jobs!

On second thought…I thank you for such a horrible experience. It made me splurge on a new coffee machine today. Something I actually should have done years ago!
