Please come and visit this place! We had the Catracho Bowl and the Pupusas, snd both things were so delicious! The Jamaica and Mango aguas frescas were also really good (a little sweet, but just add a bit of water and they’re perfect). The service was friendly. Will be back soon!

I feel compelled to give a shout out for The Latin Effect. We were just wanting to try something new and were very surprised by how good the food was and how unique the plates and flavors were. I highly recommend checking this place out, we will definitely be back. The green plantains instead of fries was a big hit – kind of like banana French fries with some great pink sauce on top.

I’ve only tried this place through takeout apps, but they labeled every single dish and even added a smiley face on each one. That alone made the service stand out, even though I didn’t go in person. They seem very sweet.
The kebabs were absolutely delicious and the chicken was amazing. I was expecting a potato, but I got yuca instead, and I wasn’t mad at all because I love yuca and it was really well cooked.
I also ordered a baleada, but the cheese had a very overpowering flavor. I love baleadas, so I would try it again without the cheese or maybe with it on the side.
Final Note: I’d recommend their chicken kebabs a thousand times. Perfectly seasoned. They’re so, so GOOD.

The best restaurant in Chapel Hill. Fantastic food, amazing service, and a great atmosphere. If you leave The Latin Effect hungry, you didn’t eat. Good portion size and for the freshest tasting food that will ever cross your tastebuds.

Talk about a Ratatouille moment! One bite of the perfectly fried banana and magic sauce instantly transported me back to childhood and closer to home. I felt exactly like Anton Ego. The recipe change was the right call; the flavors are spot on, and you can truly taste the Honduran culture in every bite.

After being a Duke student and eating at the campus food truck all the time, I had to stop by the brick-and-mortar when I heard they were opening an in-person spot. And, not surprisingly, just like back at Duke, the food was AMAZING.
My friend and I only had a few hours in Chapel Hill and Durham on our trip down, and it was an absolute must to stop here. You could even say (accurately so!) that one of the reasons we came all the way from DC was to eat this delicious food. We were not disappointed at all; everything was incredible, especially the fried pork belly and the kabobs, which are both a MUST HAVE.
Honestly, everything was so good, and the staff were incredibly kind. I left with the biggest smile on my face. Definitely returning on my next trip to the area.

We got take out from here last night and it was incredible!!! We ordered the chicken baleada, the traditional steak plate, and maduros. Everything was perfect but we especially loved the steak plate. I should have taken pictures but we ate too quickly. The portions were large and we had leftovers for lunch. This is probably our new go-to spot! My partner and I have been looking for a place like this and we are so happy we tried this!

The staff was super friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. Pair that with refreshing drinks and food that delivers big on flavor, and you’ve got a spot that’s absolutely worth checking out.
If you’re in Chapel Hill and craving bold, delicious bites, Latin Effects is the place to be!
We kicked things off with the chicken taquitos, perfectly crispy on the outside and packed with flavor inside. The carne asada fries were next level loaded, cheesy, and downright addictive . And don’t even get me started on the fried pork bites… golden, juicy, and so satisfying

The food was excellent! We ordered the pollo con tajadas, Honduras’ signature dish, along with the beef and chicken skewers. The beef was tender and the chicken perfectly seasoned. The portion of pollo con tajadas was very generous, and the prices are fantastic considering both the quantity and the unbeatable quality of the food.

While attending Duke University, I became a huge fan of The Latin Effects food truck on campus—so much so that I followed them on the StreetFoodFinder app whenever I was off campus and craving exceptional Hispanic cuisine. When I heard they had opened a restaurant in Chapel Hill, I hopped on a flight from San Francisco and drove straight into UNC territory just for a bite of their delicious, authentic, mouthwatering food.
Without a doubt, the only thing better than the food is the service, hospitality, and kindness that Bert and his team deliver every single time. The love and passion they have for their craft show in every aspect of the business—from the flavors, to the service, to the art, to the music.
