They say you can’t go home again! China Garden has been a Starkville staple for decades. My memories are from the 1990s, broke college students, getting their monies worth.
Today something’s have changed and some have not…
The restaurant has been updated although not recently. It feels like you enter through the nail salon. It’s just the third door on the right.
It’s still a buffet and all of the usual suspects. It’s good, not great and plenty of it.
The egg rolls when fresh are excellent, when sitting for an hour under the lamp they are just ok. Such is the same with most dishes when you go at 1:30. It wasn’t empty. But the lunch crowd had dispersed.
There is a lot of variety, a fresh salad bar and friendly enough service.
The hi-lite today was the Hot &Sour soup. It was especially cold out and this dish hit the spot.
Everything else is what you expect. No star stand-outs but above average to average.

This establishment is absolutely horrible!!! My friend had to call 3 times because the guy on the phone kept hanging up on her. She asked for something, he kept giving her different prices, she was just trying to get the right price, and he kept telling her a million different prices, and he hung up on her twice. She called back the 3rd time and asked for a manager, and he told her no and hung up again. From personal experience, the service and food is absolutely horrible and they just lost two customers today!!!!

Waited 20 minutes on lo main noodles and steamed dumplings only for other customers to fill their to go boxes up. Had previously asked the “waiter” if it was going to be long wait. He eventually came back and said cooking them now. Got my $80 ticket for 4 people to eat everything but what we wanted. Went to pay, ask the elderly man at the register if he spoke English. He said yes. I told him i wasn’t happy with my meal. He hummed until he handed me my receipt. I said i assume you are don’t speech English or your pretending not to, so you don’t have to deal with me. He just smiled and nodded. Place is pretty grimy. Food is fair. But doubtful to return.

It was a good Chinese restaurant. The food was good. It had more items on the buffet than other places like pork fried rice and moo goo gai pan. Will definitely go again.

The best Chinese restaurant and buffet in the town. You have so many choice of various kinds of delicious food on the bar that you can’t eat them all in one visit. All food is fresh cooked and yammy yammy. Service is excellent as well, waiter come to serve the table several times, refill my drink and grab the trash with hospitality manner. And I bought a box to go, it is the same price as you eat in, that’s amazing. I have been to other Chinese buffet nearby, they charge the to go box by pond. I think China Garden is the best one in this area, definitely Will come back again.

When in Starkville and need a good meal this is the place for Chinese food. Customer service is always amazing and the owners get to know you if you frequent the restaurant. I love the garlic green beans, broccoli salad (with bacon), and the cream cheese wontons (I could eat a bucket of them!)
