A bit of a drive for us but totally worth it!
Roberta’s Village Inn is exactly what you’d hope for in a classic diner—warm, inviting, and full of old-school charm. Open since 1969, it has that timeless feel that makes you feel right at home the moment you walk in. Despite being packed, the wait was surprisingly short, which was a nice bonus.
The portions are generous, and the prices are fair. I ordered the Farm Style breakfast, which came with two eggs (I went with fried), bacon, and seasoned hash browns. That alone was plenty, but I also got to choose between toast, a pancake, or biscuits and gravy. Naturally, I went with the biscuits and gravy. Everything was tasty—the eggs were a little under-salted, but that’s an easy fix with the salt and pepper at the table. The hash browns were seasoned with Lawry’s, which gave them a nice kick, and the bacon was exactly as it should be: crispy and delicious. The biscuits and gravy were excellent, and I managed to sneak a bite of my wife’s pancake—also really good—but at that point, I was too full to keep going. Honestly, I felt like I needed to sprint through the streets of La Verne to burn off everything I just ate.
The only downside is that it’s cash-only. I know Roberta’s isn’t the only place in La Verne that still does this, but it’s 2025, and it’s just not the most convenient. Not a dealbreaker, just something to keep in mind.
Overall, this was a great first visit, and I’d definitely come back. Classic diner vibes, great portions, and solid food—what’s not to love?
Service was awful. Sat in 2nd room, inside.
Waited 7 minutes to be noticed by server and when asked if she was our server, she said, “I could be.” We left a generous tip for service which equals that of McDonalds.
But let’s talk about food!! It was an amazing home cooked meal. They gave you big portions. I got the country fried steak, with their seasoned hashbrowns and scrambled eggs. It came with a side of toast, pancake or biscuit and gravy. I picked the biscuit and gravy.
My daughter, who is 3, was already super hungry, so I asked if I could put her order in asap and they did so kindly. She was so happy when her Mickey pancake came out, along with her chocolate milk and whip cream. This was a hidden gem for me, so glad I came across it. I will be returning on a regular.
