Absolutely love this place. The ambiance alone really makes you feel like you’re transported to a bayou. Service is great. They let you sample everything and make recommendations. Portions are fantastic. The Mac and cheese is so good! Every time you come, you can have something different, makes it fun to keep coming back. Great place!

The food was excellent! Portions were big. The staff was great about helping us decide what to get, they even let you taste a sample. We’ll be back again. We both had the Voodoo Chicken with the Jambalaya base. So good!!

OK Wow! This is an outstanding Cajun restaurant. Their flavors were just delicious. Last time I had anything this authentic was on actual Bourbon St in NOLA. This is a beautifully decorated place in the style of historic New Orleans. The service was outstanding as they were very friendly and professional and will make legit menu recommendations. Try the jambalya, the gumbo, the red beans and rice, it is all excellent. It is really easy to find in historic down town Terre Haute using Google Maps. Plenty of free street parking.

We happened on this J Gumbos in Terre Haute when visiting the area…
Since we love NOLA… we thought it was worth a visit…
It was nice to find a place that offered Cajun food… which was good… Belle and Faith were really helpful in helping us choose our dinner…
The decor was awesome, and a visit to J Gumbos is worth a visit just for the ambiance…

Amazing meal! We’ve never experienced a gumbo/Creole focused restaurant. The staff was awesome! They allowed us a small taste test to determine what we would enjoy. Ultimately, the food was hot and tasty! I will 100% add J. Gumbo’s to my “must-see” list when traveling in central Indiana.

My mom, husband, and I found J. Gumbo when we did a quick search leaving a memorial service in Terre Haute. We were pleasantly surprised at the fun, eccletic, NOLA vibe we received walking through the front door that just got more regional and extensive til you were dropped in “The Bayou” – the bar. Truly, the atmosphere was amazing! Beautiful artwork, fabulous build outs, and creative decor set a fun and festive tone that any NOLA fan would love and feel like home.
We were met with friendly and kind staff who shared their favorites and most popular items. We each tried something different, and every one was delicious! Some of the best creole we have had this far north and made us miss our old creole restaurant in town.
We have told everyone we know about J. Gumbo and are plotting our next one tank day adventure with the rest of the family and look forward to visiting again soon!

I enjoyed their drunken chicken. My only complaint could be that they gave me a fork instead of a spoon, because you will want a spoon to get every bit of goodness out of the bowl. The restaurant is nicely decorated and the staff was friendly. There was no wait when I stopped by. The street parking was pretty full but there is a parking garage very close.

If I could eat here every single day I would. This place is a true gem in Terre Haute. My best friend and I would eat here in college then I introduced my husband to it and we both love this place. The price and amount of food you get is more than fulfilling. We always receive friendly service.
The aesthetic of the restaurant is amazing. I love how it makes it an even more unique atmosphere for this area and captures the essence of NOLA.

Like the decor of this place, this visit I was disappointed. The food was good, but could use more flavor, the food was not very hot. The bread was Luke warm. Maybe the next visit would be better. Update, when again and got the ettoffe, it was pretty freaking good and amazing. Heck
