I had the Angur burger today at the Monocle Restaurant. Its good not amazing. Make sure they dont put onions and peppers on if youre not into that. Otherwise the food is affordable and very good.

I had the pleasure of eating here, having good food and a good drink to pair it. First, my table had the fried calamari, which we very much enjoyed. I didn’t put a picture on it because we ate it before I could take a picture. My choice of drink was the lemonade with seasonal berry smash, which was amazing. It berries tasted fresh, and it had a nice minty flavor, overall good. The Atlantic salmon with broccoli was nice. When mixed, the plate was a nice pairing. As someone who critics a dish first by trying each individual item before mixing it with others, the broccoli alone was not ideal. But, when combined, it was much better. The potatoes and creamed spinach were great. Both had a smooth flavor and overall great. The service was top-notch. They gave us plenty of time to catch up with each other. Coming from out of town, its not something that im used to. Usually the service is a little faster, but I enjoyed the pace of this restaurant.

Cute family owned restaurant. Came here randomly before a tour to the Capitol, where we sat at the bar and spent a lot of time conversing with who we ended up discovering was the manager, John, who was super attentive and friendly, along with the other bar staff. The decor and ambiance is quaint. I noticed upstairs (where the restroom was located) had photos of years past (likely family and other notable moments) and other historical recognitions and noteworthy moments for the restaurant. A lot of celebrities and presidents have frequented here. I also loved how this place brought me back in time, like it was preserved from the 1900s with service, class, and style, and where all the staff were dressed in formal suits (like when you had to dress right to go eat, fly, etc). One of the most notable parts of our visit was how 4 different times the staff, including manager, asked if we would like to move our seats to a more roomy/comfortable area, so we didn’t feel too cramped at the end of the bar. We ordered drinks and bread with butter which were all fresh/tasty. Also, we had ordered a chicken salad which we intended to split, and without us even asking they pre-split the salad onto 2 plates for us. They treat customers with the utmost respect, like family. It was delightful… Would definitely return!

I was honestly thrown off by the old building smell and old interior of the restaurant (with pictures of politicians) but the small plate of octopus, ribeye steak, filet mignon steak, arugula salads, and oysters and shitake mushroom side were all fab. Their foods were splendid.
And the server was experienced, professional, attentive and thoughtful. For example, he offered to split the salads when we told him that we were going to share the salads.

I was very impressed. This is an OLD DC staple that gets overlooked, so this was my first experience with The Monocle. WOW! Do they make you feel important. The staff perfectly times the event/meal, allowing time for drinks, appetizers, dinner, and dessert. Our food was DELICIOUS. The rockfish specials was probably the best rockfish that I had AND the potatoes OMG!! The own was also amazingly personable and so kind. He gives off the vibes of a real Maître d’ from a time past. I highly recommend The Monocle and will be returning.

Overall it was a perfect dinner. The noodles in the lobster linguini would be my only complaint. Fresh noodles are easy to make and these tasted like the kind from a box.
The lobster was cooked perfect, tons of flavor in the sauce. The sausage appetizer was greasy and good and a definite must, the lemon pie could have been more lemony, but it was satisfying and was a good complement to the dinner. Great wines by the glass too.

Definitely recommend, beautiful little restaurant in comparison to what I’ve been eating in. Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff plus the service was excellent.

It was my first time at The Monocle, and it didn’t disappoint. It’s very intimate and cute inside the restaurant, very rustic. My only complaint was that it was very chilly in the restaurant.
We ordered 2 appetizers, 3 entrées and 1 dessert. The food was very delicious and I would order it all again minus the carrot cake we got for dessert. Carrot cake was unfortunately made without a cream cheese frosting and really left nothing to be desired.
I am looking forward to coming back and trying some other menu items as well as visiting with the lovely staff.

Outstanding, simply outstanding! We had a wonderful meal including the 8oz filet which was cooked to perfection. Also enjoyed the crab cakes, that we would highly recommend.
