i love it so much. i go here every month and the food is amazing. if you go in the restaurant and actually sit there and eat, the way that they place the food on the plate looks so beautiful. i recommend this restaurant so much, the workers are so nice, thy recommend things for you, they give you options, if you tell them what you like then they will find something similar to it, they talk to you, and there so kind! i totally recommend, if you do go then have fun!

What a wonderful lunch! This locally owned El Loro Mexican restaurant is such a gem. The staff were incredibly kind and welcoming, and truly went above and beyond to accommodate my dietary needs—which can sometimes make dining out challenging. I felt genuinely cared for from the moment I walked in. The food was fresh, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. If you’re looking for authentic Mexican food, outstanding customer service, and a place that treats people with respect and warmth, I can’t recommend this restaurant enough. I’ll definitely be back!

I used to come here during the era of Rey Azteca. I loved the food and service then! The atmosphere was simple and basic.
Now, under the franchise El Loro, there is good service, and atmosphere is lovely, with the tucans everywhere, but the food is really not the same.
1. They ran out of rice (around 8pm) on the night I was there, so the entire table was served every meal without rice. We were informed prior to finalizing our order, but no discount or substitute was offered.
2. I got the last available margarita in their blended ice machine, so they ran out of that too.
3. The quality of the ingredients used is just not the same as it was before. You can tell specifically in the cheese. The menu also has over 60 items, which I think may impact the quality of what was served.
5. The tamale that I had was good, and I appreciated that.
Given my experience, I cannot in good faith recommend this Mexican restaurant and will be looking for another spot in the area! Thank you!

El Loro provided the food for our annual Chanhassen Boys Hockey Team Teacher Appreciation Night, and it was absolutely delicious. The portions were incredibly generous, everything tasted fresh, and the staff was so kind and accommodating. We received so many compliments on the meal. I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to anyone craving an authentic, flavorful Mexican meal. We’ll definitely be going to eat at El Loro more often!

We kept seeing this restaurant next to Cub Foods and decided to give it a try. The food was very good! Great size portions, flavorful and delicious! They also give you ranch and salsa with your tortilla chips…which I have never seen before but wow does that combo taste good together! We will definitely be back!

Almost like every other “authentic” Mexican but with great flavor and amazing staff. The staff was great from start to finish, very helpful with giving recommendations and explaining their dishes. Then when the food came, it was significantly better than any authentic Mexican in the Midwest. I was surprised! I try carnitas almost every place I go, and they have some of the best seasoned meat I’ve had. I was very impressed. We will be back.

Updating my review as I’ve been back to this restaurant multiple times since writing a review in November 2025. El Loro has become one of my go to spots in Chanhassen. The staff is amazing…kind, helpful and attentive. Today I visited and was reminded how troubling things are in our community as I had to call the restaurant to be admitted into the dining room as they fear for the safety of their employees. Yet, the staff maintains positive spirits and shares uplifting Bible versus on the front window to hell encourage others.
