Had lunch with a group on Sunday. We tried the buffett and off the menu with chicken picatta, gyro and fettucine. Everyone was very happy with the entrees! We started with drinks blueberry lemon drop, mimosas, mule and several tried the strawberry chocolate martini. The strawberry chocolate martini was the standout but all were delicious.
We had to try the flaming cheese( I forgot the name). That was fun and very good! Loved the Calamari as well. Service was outstanding! Would definately recommend!!

Super flavorful food, excellent and quick service-the place was packed! The Valentine’s Day special was amazing! Steak/lobster/bottle of wine/desserts for a little over $100 and the absolute best! Thanks for a perfect night-Jon, you and your dad have it figured out!

Opa! Italian & Greek How I wanted you to be the best dinner night, but you came up short.

We needed a place to grab dinner and they didn’t have a wait on Saturday night. We were running a tight schedule which is our fault.

I ordered the Creamy Steak de Burgo with Rosemary Potatoes. I ordered it medium and chose the beef tenderloin. Well it didn’t come out medium or rare, but raw. I mean raw. The server agreed and took it back. It took a while to come back and by that time we needed to go to catch the show. We also barely made it to the show. I had to take it to go. The server didn’t say anything to the manager or apologize or anything. Again I know I was in a tight schedule, but it is your responsibility to ensure the food is correct and cooked to order. I am not giving up on Opa! because the food is solid, The service could be better.

The beef tenderloin was very good with the creamy garlic, wine, & basil sauce. Tossed and topped with mushrooms. The rosemary potatoes were fire, especially with the creamy sauce from the tenderloin. I would ask for more sauce next time. I did the upgrade and it’s definitely worth it. They need to work on getting the rare, medium, medium well, and that’s not good correct. What I got back was a very well done tenderloin. This is a solid meal and I will be back to give it a shot. We never said we were in a hurry or anything. Just want it cooked correctly.

The salad and bread were good. I would get the salad dressing on the side.

My gorgeous wife got the lasagna and I got a bite. It was amazing as well. She loved it and would get it again.

We hadn’t planned on going to Opa! but we did and I absolutely love the atmosphere and feel this is a solid place, just wasn’t a great experience. I was so damned hungry through the entire show at the Civic Center and may have been hangry.

Ok, so I want to start off by saying that I’ve had great experiences with OPA, but tonight was a major case of high expectations (due to past positive experience) and poor execution.

My wife went in to check if we could get a table right away as we had our 3 little ones in tow. They said yes, so we unloaded the kids and were seated right away at 7:20. Our waitress didn’t come to greet us for about 10-15min. Nbd, they were busy. We said we’ll have 4 gyro specials (5.99 on Tues) and Cokes.

She said that’s online only. I said ok so take out, that’s fine. She said but you’re dining in. I said we can order online. Maybe we wait in the car, go check out some Xmas lights and come back. She says I’ll give you a couple minutes. She came back with our sodas, so it was clear the take out thing wasn’t going to happen, so we ordered 2 lamb gyros and kids meals.

We were disappointed bc we had checked for the special online and it appeared based on the sentence structure that the single gyro special was “ALL DAY”. But we didn’t read further down the paragraph to where it has additional terms. Bummer. But win some, lose some…again fine.

Here’s where they lost us. We have two kids under two and an 8. The little ones were fussy and hungry. It wasn’t hard to observe. We sat, waiting to eat until 8:40. I’m sure our screaming kids were irritating to other patrons, but they were stuck, stationary, waiting without eating dinner for 1 hour and 20.

We didn’t complain, bc that’s just not us. We were served. We had to ask to be given napkins. Idk if there’s a napkin rationing situation, but for 5 people (and having to ask), we were given 3. We had to rip our napkins in half and share. But kids get messy, so we asked for more napkins, and we were given one more, for a total of 4.

The gyros were good, as usual. But we’d unfortunately found the kids time/patience limit and had to take everything to go (ironic, with us wanting the take out special). The kids didn’t eat the pizza (even though they were super hungry), which came with no salad, fries, nada. It looked, and tasted like school lunch food, but worse. Same with the kids burger, but worse. No toppings, no mustard/ketchup/lettuce/pickle/onion (which our kiddos love). I took a bite of the burger. It tasted like an unseasoned, cooked to death and back, frozen patty. I don’t expect the kids menu to be the star of the show, but kids deserve edible food, and these are not good or fair offerings. Also, no drinks included for kids.

On that topic, the pepperoni kids pizza is on the menu for 6.99. Our waitress rung it up at 7.99 and charged us an extra .75 for the pepperoni. So basically $9 for inedible pizza that wound up in the garbage. Idc about the money, but it’s just the shiftiness of getting nickled and dimed on a kid’s meal. You’d think a pepp pizza would come with pepp right. Our waitress just didn’t read the room with us and was stingy with her attentiveness… and napkins lol. And didn’t really seem to care that we were deep on the struggle bus and needed to get the order pushed out.

TLDR: inedible kids menu, overcharged for food, napkin shortage???, inattentiveness, unexpectedly long wait, confusing/non-available specials, but REALLY GOOD GYROS.

I hate to leave a critical review, and I’m sorry guys.. but this was a really unpleasant and disappointing experience overall.

I genuinely don’t know if the English language can describe how amazing this place is. It gives “hole in the wall” with the simple and slightly dated decor, however, it’s anything but. The service is absolutely outstanding. Our server Chelsea (I hope I spelled it right), went above and beyond with hospitality, kindness, and knowledge. Oh and the food? Mouth watering. Sensational. Truly phenomenal.

We came here for an INSANE Valentine’s special they were running and there’s no doubt in our mind that we will be back. Is one visit enough to say it’s our new favorite in the DSM metro?

My husband and I ate here last night for the first time. Such a hidden gem. Great service, food and atmosphere. Had a lot of gluten free options for me. Best gnocchi I have ever had. Even took a bottle of wine home. My only regret is I wish we would have tried this place sooner!

This is definitely going to become one of my favorite restaurants! I ordered the manicotti with marinara and it did not disappoint. The pasta was perfectly cooked and the cheese was seasoned great. The sauce itself was a little watery but the flavor made up for it. My fiance got gnocchi with Alfredo and chicken and it was also very good. The gnocchi was soft without being mushy and the chicken had a great grilled flavor. I’m not big on Alfredo but my fiance said its the best he’s had in the area. I also ordered a strawberry cucumber martini that was on the specials board and OMG it was delicious. I was worried it’d be overly sweet and just taste like strawberry but there was a strong cucumber flavor that made it very refreshing. My fiance had an old fashioned and said it was good (I don’t like whiskey a whole lot, so I didn’t try it). Our server Jayden was also great. Neither one of us felt rushed and it was a very comfortable and welcoming experience. I regret not trying this place sooner!

This place, after multiple visits, probably falls somewhere between three and four stars. I will break it down by category.

Food:
The first two times, the food was pretty good for the area, but nothing especially memorable. The kids menu listed ravioli, so we ordered it, but it did not mention that it was fried. That is a big difference, similar to ordering grilled chicken and being served fried instead. Overall, it has not been bad, but there has been some inconsistency.

Service:
The first two visits were very good, even though the restaurant was busy. The waitresses were attentive and everything ran smoothly. Prices and specials are reasonable, and the portions are solid. On our most recent visit, however, the older woman serving us came across as somewhat passive-aggressive when asked basic questions. I am not confrontational or rude, so it felt a bit overly defensive and unnecessary, which took away from the experience. Aside from that, service has been good.

Atmosphere:
The interior is so bad it is almost good. There is a certain charm to it, but the decor is all over the place. It feels cluttered, chaotic, dated, and a bit random. There are Italian-themed pictures in one area, Cardinals in another, a photo of a Greek coastline, fake plants and grapes, more birds, and so on. It does not feel cohesive. The space is also fairly dark and crowded visually. It could really benefit from a simple sprucing up and simplifying overall.

Overall:
It is a decent spot for the area, but there is room for some straightforward improvements, especially in consistency and atmosphere.

I really like Opa! It’s a small place but they have an excellent chef. I visited from out of town.

Make sure you order the flaming Saganaki. It is cheese that your server lights on fire. The flames are doused out with lemon. The cheese is nicely browned.

The menu has a nice variety of offerings. The drink menu has a good selection of mules. I ordered a watermelon mule. It came garnished with a watermelon wedge. It was perfect – not too sweet, which is the reason I order mules in the first place.

Your server will give you a big list of specials. I ordered the Mediterranean special with scallops and shrimp. This dish is also on the main menu. I can’t have too much butter so they graciously prepared it with olive oil. My cholesterol is very grateful for the chef’s flexibility. What I really liked about this dish is the seafood was perfectly prepared. So many restaurants overcook delicate shrimp and scallops. And the portion size was just right.

I did not see the whole restaurant but I got the impression it might be difficult to fit in a large party. Call and ask how large of a party they can accommodate.

Don’t hesitate to visit Opa! You will not be disappointed!
