Not sure why the reviews are so negative! This place/location was amazing the food was amazing, the proportion was way more than enough, the place was super clean. The clear glasses up front you take for your drinks, not a spot on them & I look & I’m picky. My hubby had enough food for leftovers for lunch tomorrow. My salad had great deal of chicken mixed throughout. The gentleman up front was so kind, knowledgeable, & checked on us throughout our meal. I had the Galos Chicken Salad, hubby had the Galos Chicken Bowl, pic below. This Galos location was located in the Marketplace area in University Place, next to Whole Foods. People please leave good reviews if you have had a good experience to keep business open & flowing. People always seem to share the negative but don’t forget to share the good too!

I had a great experience at their Ballard location, both the food and service. So I was really disappointed to bring my partner here thinking it would be the same. The staff was rude the entire transaction and acted as though we were inconveniencing her. Then the food came out. We ordered the trio which has 8 pieces of chicken. Well they give you 6 pieces of back that are mostly bone and two thin drumsticks. The seasoning was nice but not stellar like before. The coleslaw was horrendous. It was literally dry as though they opened the prepackaged shredded coleslaw mix into the bowl they served us and added nothing. The piri fries we also underwhelmingly seasoned. The garlic bread was hamburger ends. Definitely won’t be going to this location ever again.

I ordered the Galos Piri Bowl and it was fine but nothing special. My rice was undercooked and the veggies looked like they were frozen, not fresh. But my chicken was cooked well and it was very flavorful – I ate every bite of the chicken but left some of the rice and veg behind.

The location is great, the atmosphere is fantastic and offers both indoor and outdoor seating. Staff was super friendly and very helpful. The food, at least in my experience so far, needs a little work – or maybe I just ordered the wrong thing? Overall I would say Galos is a great addition to University Place and I will certainly try them again.

Meh, to less than meh almost $30 after tip for rice bowls/shrimp and Piri fries.
Really thought they would be more to the bowl and just rice and a few shrimp. The bowl pic is how it looked when I opened it. Fries were good. I ordered medium spice, but it was really no spice.
Curious about the chicken maybe I’ll be a sucker and try again.

We’ve given this location a few chances and have been consistently disappointed. When ordering for delivery items are missing. Today, we went to pick it up for ourselves, came home to raw chicken in the middle. Not happy with quality of food here.

UPDATED – 2nd visit.
I ordered takeout chicken wings and fries this weekend. Immediately, the wings felt slimy and on further inspection were raw in the middle. I spoke with two different staff members over two days who each promised a call from a manager to resolve my complaint but I heard nothing. The customer service matches the standard of cooking.

The chicken was decent but items in my order were messed up. One item was missing and I had to wait for it to be cooked while the other food got cold.

Worst still, my side of garlic bread was actually a burger bun sliced in half. Maybe the restaurant was out of bread but the fact that it decided to serve burger buns rather than cancel the item speaks volumes.

This is tops is the chicken department. And it is not deep fried!
3 levels of spice or lemon chicken.
Their sides are amazing too.
No more boring fries and some spice to those too.
If you haven’t tried it, I would say give it a go.
Reminds me of Piri Piri from London.

Twice I’ve ordered from them and their food isn’t cooked properly. First time it was raw chicken liver. Second was raw chicken. Makes sense why the place is empty.

I’ve been going since they opened this location. About a month ago they decided to give a big middle finger to loyal customers. They raised prices significantly. They did not give any extra food. In fact I got less this time than my last order before the hike. The ingredients didn’t get any better. So why the hike? My go to shrimp bowl was $12 now it’s $20. Absolutely insane. Lost a customer to greed

Not to mention I tried to by their bottle sauce a few months back. I got home and notice it was expired by over a year. Took it back and their whole stock was expired! So clearly little quality control going on…

Food tastes fine but it’s not a whole lot quantity wise and with the price hike, I cannot recommend this place

I have no idea what any the negative reviews are talking about. We’ve been here like 5-6 times since it opened, at various times of day, and the restaurant has always been impeccably clean, food has been delicious, service really good. One star reviews should be reserved for disgusting horrible restaurants, not just because your rice was a little under-seasoned or undercooked. There was like, one time, where it was really slow, but it was a one-off. I think they suffer from high employee turnover, which isn’t surprising in today’s economy. Chicken is phenomenal, great sauces and sides (and the rice is great). There are some items that are better than others, but stick with the real chicken dishes and you can’t go wrong. My wife is from South America and she says this type of food is very reminiscent of a lot of the rotisserie chicken street restaurants down there. Galos is her favorite place in town. Don’t believe all the negative reviews from people who are just looking for overprocessed fried garbage.
