✨ Okay, listen… The Butterwood Bake Consortium is pure magic. I walked in the first weekend of November in Pittsburgh, and it was like stepping into a late-night pastry wonderland where every cake, pie, torte, and delicate pastry is screaming your name—and yes, they deliver. Fresh, original, beautiful, and utterly irresistible.
The vibe? Calm, chic, cozy… yet somehow electric. The neighborhood is charming, the staff are warm, and the pastries? Honey… they don’t just taste phenomenal—they demand your full attention. Every bite is a celebration of flavor, creativity, and pure joy.
Late-night cravings? Solved. Dessert dreams? Fulfilled. Experience? Unforgettable. This is a kingdom of decadence, originality, and sheer delight, and I cannot wait to come back and taste everything I missed the first time.
If you love pastries that are as stunning as they are delicious, do yourself a favor—run, don’t walk, to Butterwood. Your taste buds will throw a party in your honor. ✨

What a cozy amazing cafe! Such tasty sweet treats. Not just your normal sugary affair but elevated with unique flavor and texture. You can tell a lot of time and love went into crafting those recipes. They should be proud.
Such a comfy inviting atmosphere too. A great place to meet up with a friend, have a specially coffee, and talk for hours.
And of course, what would a cafe be without their beverages? I got a hot cappuccino and it was a delight. Great bean flavor and just the right ratio of milk, froth, and espresso.
Great service, great atmosphere, great treats. The murmurings are true. Check it out.

This is one of the most beautiful bakeries in the world. The cakes are all beautifully decorated and taste just as wonderful as they look! The bakery itself is an old compelan home with ample seating. Great place to come hang out, bring a date, spot worth a book, or bring the parents. They also have a great selection of tea and coffee.

Although the service was lovely and helpful, and the atmosphere is charming but a tad dark, I was not impressed with the desserts we tried. The chocolate chip cookie sandwich with peanut butter buttercream was our favorite but not a stand out from what you might get at other bakeries. The raspberry rose tea cake was a very good texture, but neither the cake or the buttercream had a very strong raspberry flavor (or much flavor of any sort), a bit disappointing as I love raspberry with cake. The browned butter blondie had a good flavor, but was very dry and crumbly, more than blondies I’ve had elsewhere. The price point was a bit high for the experience we had, and I know the price is driven by the use of high quality ingredients, but the end products were not as high quality as I had hoped for given the very positive reviews I’ve heard from other people.

A beautiful, dark academia vibe-y cake shop! The decor was so lovely. I liked that the cakes had floral accents on them and that they sell vibrant dried bouquets of flowers too. Cake-wise, they make great desserts. The raspberry hibiscus one was a dream. The soft cake, the dried pieces of fruit, the airy whipped topping – this was a treat. I tried an earl gray one too, and while I liked it, that one did have a bit too much salt (I think? Or just too strong of another flavor) for my taste. I recommend this place for the cool environment and the cakes, especially the raspberry hibiscus!

I’ve been wanting to try this place for so long and finally had the opportunity to stop in tonight. I saw from their website that had some exciting flavors (regular cake is just boring to me) and they did NOT disappoint!!
We ordered a box to go and tried four things- a lavender tea cake ube buttercream, poppy rose tea cake with pistachio buttercream, coconut orange honey cake with matcha icing, and dark chocolate cake with chocolate ganache. All of it was incredible. Just incredible. Whoever comes up with these combinations and recipes knows what they are doing.
The atmosphere is moody Victorian with stained glass panels, dark wallpaper, a velvet sofa, long wooden pew, and mismatched chairs.
The best part is that they’re open til 11 so after a fun date night we able to pop in. Can’t wait to come back!

Inside a beautifully designed space is a bakery worth your attention. Next to dried flower bouquets for sale are cupcakes, cakes, and more. They even have a wide selection of vegan options. My wife loved the vanilla cupcake with buttercream frosting. Even though I’m not vegan, the chocolate pudding was perfect and made with tofu!

Mediterra closes early and we needed coffee. We saw that Butterwood was open until 11pm so we thought we’d give it a try. My partner and I often share a drink because we don’t need a whole one and it’s usually enough for us. We tried to order an iced chai, but they had no ice (for an establishment open for another 7 hours) —no issue, hot is fine we said. Then they said we don’t have chai, so in a moment of quick thinking due to the limited menu options we asked for a macchiato to go. What we received was a paper espresso cup amount of coffee for $6. If I had asked for an espresso, the size wouldn’t have been so baffling, but I didn’t ask for an espresso. The young woman working the register seemed well-intentioned but clueless. She didn’t mention any sizes or that it wouldn’t be a great sharing option. I burnt my fingers holding the cup on my way out because it wasn’t double-cupped (common practice for hot coffee). My partner then burnt her tongue trying to take some of the volume off because the tiny cup was very volatile and prone to spilling as it had no lid. Not mad just disappointed and kind of get why it took me almost three years to try their coffee.

A wonderful, high-quality, creative, and unique place.
Dessert was fantastic. Felt like it was made by baker who was trained to do it their entire life. Had a dense richness, without the intense indulgence of richness. Was phenomenal. All the other cakes looked v creative and well done.
Had tea, was also a treat – unique and special.
The general environment was also unique. Had a rich almost witchy aristocratic vibe to it. Just felt nice to be in.
Only con is you will pay a premium – the ‘Lawrenceville tax’. It’s not Montenegro insane but this isn’t a value kind of place. Expect $30 w tip for two people, each getting a cake and a drink
This is a quality place. If you like dessert and appreciate uniqueness, for sure try it.
