Stopped in for a quick lunch and got the lunch special Cavatelli with sausage. The price was reasonable, staff was friendly, food came out fast and the food was good. Definitely would like to try it for dinner but they are really busy on the weekends and don’t have enough parking. But I Will Be Back.

Good service great meatball sandwich, and quick service. Roasted potato side was spot on. They also have a very attractive list of lunch specials that are inexpensive I just wasn’t in the mood.

This was my first time at Sonny’s Bistro, and I was very impressed! I ordered the cavatelli and meatballs, which were excellent—perfectly cooked pasta and flavorful sauce. Our server, Elsie, went above and beyond with her service. She was attentive, friendly, and even kept my Arnold Palmer refilled without me having to ask. Great food and outstanding service make this a 5-star experience. I’ll definitely be coming back!

We funnily enough saw this restaurant on TikTok, had a good review so tried it out for ourselves. When we arrived we were told a 30 minute wait but they had us sat in 10, so great start already. We sat on the back patio which was nice because of the heaters. When we originally sat down we watched a women server arguing with the host about us being sat because she has just gotten another table, this guy stepped in and said he would take us, watching this was a little disheartening but he did an amazing job. Our servers name was Isaac and he was phenomenal right where he needed to be but not hovering. Made great suggestions for the main meal and was on top of service perfectly. We had a margaritas pizza as an appetizer it was THE BEST PIZZA IVE HAD IN YEARS. The sauce was so amazing and fresh the crust was thin and crispy but still thick enough tro feel like crust IYKYK. Then we tried the cavetalli with meatballs and pepper steak pasta. Both would highly reccomend. recommend. The meatballs are fantastic, tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection, the steak was also very tender and the mushrooms and peppers were perfect savory to the hint of sweet in the sauce. It was a great experience the service was phenomenal and food was Amazing. We will definitely be going back. Loved loved loved the red sauce.

Sonny’s Pizza Bistro is my go-to when I’m craving authentic Italian but don’t want to drive all the way to the South Side of Des Moines. Family-owned and local businesses are my favorite kind to support, so Sonny’s is definitely my kind of place.

Prices are very reasonable, and the food is delicious. Unlike every other restaurant we frequent, we usually don’t even choose our meals and just ask them to decide for us and have yet to be anything less than amazed.

I highly recommend the POPS (peppers, onions, potatoes, Italian Sausage). I make a great Italian Sausage, Peppers, and Onions at home, but it’s somewhat labor intensive, and I enjoy their appetizer version of this staple Italian dish.

Parking is ample, seating is comfortable, the darker lighting is relaxed and i dare say romantic when I’m taking my wife for date night, and the music choice of older standards is refreshingly perfect for the restaurant as even the majority of nice, fine dining establishments have switched to contemporary. All this adds up to a perfect ambiance.

This is definitely not a sports bar, but they have a few TVs for the customers (like me) who want to watch a game while getting the best Italian food in the area.

My advice is check out Sonny’s if you want a great meal and a great experience.

We just heard about Sonny’s a few months ago. We have been there 4 times already. Great service, great food. We have had their pizza and Cavetelli. The appetizers are great too. They have sandwiches but we haven’t tried those yet

It’s about $10-20 per person unless you have alcohol

We came here to spend time together as a family while my brother was in town after working in Jamaica rebuilding power lines. This was one of the few opportunities we had to be together. Our group was eight adults and one small child.

We were explicitly told the tables could be arranged so we could sit together. That turned out to be completely untrue. Once we arrived, we were told the child counted as a ninth person, could not sit on a lap because it was “unsafe,” and we were split up and seated on opposite sides of the restaurant. The logic was absurd and the lack of common sense was frustrating.

This happened during a time of year when restaurants should expect families trying to gather—not be separated because of rigid, poorly explained rules and bad communication. If you can’t accommodate large families or be honest upfront about your seating policies, you should say so before people show up expecting to eat together.

What should have been a meaningful family meal turned into an aggravating experience. We will not be returning.

This was my first time here and I would not hesitate to go back. The inside dining seemed a little cool and close seating so we (party of 2) enjoyed a table on the patio and really liked the setup. Our waitress was excellent, which (to me) is a big part for feeling like you’ve had a positive experience at a place, next to the taste of a meal of course. We ordered a large or 12” supreme pizza; the crust was thin and crispy with a good amount of toppings and sauce (for $20.50). I wanted something else with my meal so I got a side salad and that’s the only reason I did a 4 instead of a 5 in all my ratings…for $5 it was a bit sparse with a handful of iceberg lettuce, two pieces of onion, 2 cherry tomatoes and a cracker. If you’re ordering a sandwich ($11-$12) you can add a side salad for $2.50 or it’s free with an entree ($17-$21) so that’s the only reason why I felt $5 was a little high after seeing the other price points. If I was doing a bistro or 10” size pizza then $5 seems more fair for a side salad but overall not a dealbreaker for whether I’d go back. Saw several other dishes served and the pasta looked great as well as their appetizers. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed if you try them out if a first timer.

This isn’t your typical pizza joint, but it’s definitely worth a try. The focaccia bread was absolutely delicious, and the service was top-notch. They even have an enclosed patio with heaters, making it a great choice for outdoor dining.
