We wandered in while bar-hopping on Thames Street and ended up staying much longer than planned. It’s small but stylish, with thoughtful cocktails. The bartender took time to explain the drink menu and even adjusted one for my friend who prefers less citrus. It felt relaxed and personal great for conversation.

Highly recommend this pub for their delicious sandwiches and excellent service! The tuna melt was to die for and so was the Italian sub my partner tried! The prices are also very reasonable, especially for the area! Definitely great choice for a quick yet tasty lunch!

We’ve been several times, great place for lunch; lots of sandwich choices, hot or cold, had the Southern Belle, tuna melt and pastrami Reuben today, all were exceptional. There’s a full bar and interesting cocktails too. Very good prices as well, thank you for that! And a big thank you to Kaela for the fabulous service; she was juggling a busy bar as well as the lunch patrons so I appreciate her checking in with us often and being so kind. Highly recommend this little gem for lunch, you’ll be glad you went!

Bartenders are pretty rude, tailored towards regulars who only order beer or two ingredient drinks (walk in and say the usual type people)
Only bar in Newport actively advertised a winter cocktail menu, when asked to see the list the bartender scoffed and said “Really?” I said “yeah really” he paused thinking I was kidding then caved and handed it over admitting it was his first night. My question is “Really?… it’s your first night and this is how you talk to customers?” Absolutely ridiculous. You know if you treat new customers better they might come back and one day be regulars. You would get better tips, better reviews (verbally and written)…it’s a ripple effect. I sort or expect this type of customer service from some Gen Z’ers but this guy was well into his 50s so it was strange. Drinks were ok but nothing to write home about. Overall, not worth it. Maybe don’t advertize a winter cocktail list all over your windows if you don’t want to serve it.

Protective Club is a perfect local spot, and a must try if you’re looking for a relaxed atmosphere for a few drinks. The sandwiches are solid, and the snacks hit the spot. Dog friendly!

Get your membership now and save even more on the excellent drinks. I’ve been a member since they opened, and haven’t regretted a minute. Tip your bartenders!

Great spot to grab a cold one and catch a game. Good atmosphere and friendly service. They offer a quality selection of drinks and have pretty good food options as well. Even look out for late night dinners. Worth checking out if you’re in the area.

Kayla Mike & Scott makes you feel at home. The location is perfect for me. It on Thames but just out of the “tourist zone”

✔️Great food
✔️Great drinks
✔️Great bar
✔️Great board games at night
✔️Great atmosphere
✔️Great vibe

The jokes are bad but get better after the second drink (lol), the glasses are clean, the restrooms are clean and the ice is cold. It doesn’t get any better than this.

Like Scott said “it’s a great place to work if your remote and the WiFi is better than Starbucks”
I work remote, he’s 100% right.

They make a good drink, although not the best Bloody Mary I’ve ever had but our espresso martini and spiked cider I got was good.

We made a quick stop to Protective Club, before our long drive back to NY and we were so glad we did! Reasonably priced food and drinks while still keeping decent portions and most of all the food was delicious!
