We reserved a table ahead of time on a Saturday evening so our party of nine was seated right away, which was great because the restaurant was soon packed. Service was friendly, efficient. Our table had a variety of entrees, with pasta dishes being a big hit for the most part. Eggplant Parmesan was a standout and the cappellini primavera was terrific whereas the chicken vesuvio was disappointing, very bland. Chocolate cake and carrot cake desserts were excellent. Overall it was a good experience.

Second time visiting this Italian restaurant in Barrington, Agio, and we loved it again. They offered us some really nice specials, and everything we ordered was amazing. Our server was very polite and friendly. Overall, a great experience—we’ll definitely be back.

Beautiful place, I’ve been a few times, and each time my steak has been cooked way too long. For the price, would not recommend any steak here, stick to pasta. Seated on the patio last time and the server forgot we were there. If you can get a table inside it’s probably much better.

This place has wonderful good. They give you large portions and they are very reasonable. The customer service experience is awesome. I had the lasagna. It was enough to share.

Great food. Loved the texture of the pasta and how garlic was used. Generous portions and reasonable prices. Really nice ambiance with a beautiful wine cellar area. Our server Nikki was one of the most pleasant servers I’ve had in years. Would def come back.

This used to be our favorite restaurant. Over the last year everything went downhill. We tried it again tonight. Lisa the bartender was terrific but the food was terrible. We ordered muscles, sausage & peppers and chicken vesuvio. ALL 3 dishes were smothered in the same garlic, chicken gravy. It was horrible!

This place used to be so great. WHAT HAPPENED????

We ordered from them for Christmas Eve. We created our own catering menu based on their restaurant menu not off their catering menu. They were really good to accommodate what I was looking for. The food was sooooooo good! I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a good Italian dinner! We only eat fish on Christmas Eve and the fish in the pasta was so fresh and delicious! The scallops were out of this world! Highly recommend!

Can there be a no star option?

I am in disbelief of the way I was treated at Agio in Palatine. I went with two friends who were celebrating me being cancer-free and I was super excited. My two friends received their food. Mine came out 20 min later. A braised short rib. I took one bite, and it was impossible to chew. I had a friend try as well and she agreed. I asked the waitress to take it back which was no problem.

A min later, the “owner” walked up to me with my plate and told me that it was impossible to overcook that meat and if I got a new one it would be exactly the same. I was shocked. What happened to the mantra that the customer is always right? And I was.

I said to not even replace it and just take it off the bill. I then walked over to him and very nicely said I have been there multiple times and been happy and was very insulted by his response to me being unhappy with my meal and he responded very aggressively. He was convinced I was in the wrong for my food being inedible, and I am pretty sure he wasn’t even aware that I had to wait for so long for it to even come out. I got more upset at the response, and he told me to stop shaking my finger at him, turned around and walked into the kitchen and acted like I wasn’t still standing there. My children acted better than him at the age of 2!! I feel so beyond disrespected. Please do not support this man’s business.

I look forward to him responding as he does for negative reviews. That’s the kind of person he is clearly.

My wife and I love Italian food and love this place. The food is delicious and everyone is so great every time we come here. Their pasta is so good that I don’t really even look at what else is on the menu. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for great food

This place is an absolute circus, and not the entertaining kind.

Front of house was a complete disaster. We waited nearly thirty minutes just to get our drink order taken while staff wandered around like headless chickens. No awareness. No urgency. No clue.

I ordered vodka sauce with shrimp. What arrived was chicken. After they finally remade it properly, they committed an unforgivable sin and slapped the old burrata cheese from the screwed up dish onto the side of the new plate. Recycled cheese. In an Italian restaurant. That alone tells you everything you need to know about the standards here.

The pasta was bland, heavy, and lifeless. The sauce tasted flat and lazy. Zero pride on the plate.

To top it off, they charged a three dollar credit card convenience fee even though I used a debit card. Apparently accuracy is optional in every part of this establishment.

Then, after wasting our time all night, they suddenly tried to rush us out. If the front of house knew how to run a floor, they wouldn’t need to shove customers out the door to cover their own incompetence.

This wasn’t a meal. It was chaos served with attitude.

Save your money. Save your evening. If you want real Italian food and basic professionalism, go anywhere else.
