An underground cocktail bar with vinyl records. Our cocktail menu is forever changing and we are always trying to use the best seasonal ingredients available to us. We are located in the lower level of the Afghan bistro, Lapis. Our cocktail menu is representative of our Afghan roots and are truly unique to our concept. In addition to live events, tastings, and pre-fixe dinners we play vinyl records every night and we highly encourage our guests to bring in their records to listen while they sip on cocktails and enjoy our delicious Afghan dumplings.

Along Columbia Road NW in Columbia Heights is a basement bar with vibes. With a two bars and several rooms with tables, vinyl records and books decorate the shelves.
My friend and I grabbed two seats at the bar easily on a Wednesday evening around 8 pm. Then bartender was attentive yet chill.
The menu is fascinating with a wide range of cocktails, beer, and wine. It’s unique but you’ll notice the focus on flavors like vanilla and cardamom in many drinks.
Enjoying more sweet and sour drinks, the bartender recommended the Buz-Kishi Sour and the Babur Gardens. I ordered both and found both unexpected, unique, and refreshing.
My friend enjoying stiff and bitter drinks, he didn’t love the Herati Western or the Qabooli Old Fashion. Both seemed unbalanced and a little off with the latter being too sweet.
Five stars for everything else from service to space.

Truly the worst experience I’ve had at a restaurant in so long. There was no one there to check us in when we arrived, when we tried to ask the bartender (who was the only member of staff around) where we should check in his response was “well your table probably won’t even be ready by 9” and said we just have to try and flag a waitress down to see what the deal was. That was nearly impossible, and took so long and multiple people to speak to. Once we were seated the waitress was extremely rude and condescending when we asked for more drinks. At the end she literally threw the check on the table mumbled “thank you for coming” and ran away. So strange, we’ve been to Lapop multiple times and it was one of our favorite bars but are legitimately thinking of never going back after our experience last night.

Great place for date night. The aushak (veggie) was delicious. Drinks included: lapis old fashion (my favorite), anar (mocktail), and the viceroy. Got here early enough where it wasn’t packed.

Best kept secret — Happy Hour from 6-9pm — turns into a bar with dj and live music sometimes. Great cocktails. I usually order a bolani from the Afghan restaurant upstairs.

What a pleasant surprise! I stumbled upon this place, and was blown away with the service as well as the drinks. Our bartender Jon was extremely personable and attentive, while also seamlessly making delicious drinks the whole night. Keep this cocktail lounge on your next list!

Omg Lapop is such good vibes and amazing cocktails. Mixologist David is really showing up and showing out and Jessica is a killer server. We had dinner upstairs and didn’t realize the bar existed and went to check it out and ended up there all night. The bar program is really something special, had to shut the bar down it really was a hoot and a holler.
