This was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in a long time — and unfortunately, this was my second visit. I had been here once last year and the food was already bad then, but I returned this time only because it was someone else’s celebration. I genuinely hoped – and honestly prayed – that things had improved. Instead, it seems the restaurant has gone into a steady decline.

The food was genuinely awful – I can honestly say Denny’s has more flavour than what was served here. We also tried a Belgian waffle, which was extremely difficult to eat – rough in texture and tasted very stale. To make matters worse, the menu does not list all ingredients, which became a serious food safety issue when allergenic ingredients showed up in dishes without warning.

Service was painfully slow. We had a reservation and were the only party in the restaurant, yet it took about 15 minutes to order drinks, 40 minutes to place our food order, and nearly an hour for mains to arrive. That level of delay is unacceptable under any circumstances. My husband’s salmon benny arrived last and completely cold – the entire dish, salmon, eggs, potatoes, and all – and the salmon itself clearly wasn’t fresh.

I understand higher prices in a place like White Rock, but the pricing here does not reflect quality or taste. It feels like an outright ripoff. Even the fries weren’t fresh – people at our table were comparing them to McDonald’s fries.

Service was also a major issue. One server was rude, dismissive, and clearly irritated to be working. Simple requests like water refills were brushed off or redirected to other staff. In contrast, Natasha (tall, thin server) was absolutely lovely and went above and beyond — she was the only bright spot. The other server’s attitude was openly hostile and made the experience uncomfortable.

When it came time to leave, I asked for a box for my leftovers. It never came. I politely reminded them multiple times, but my party had to move on. I was forced to abandon my mediocre, overpriced fries and carry my sandwich out in a napkin.

I also noticed that management does not respond to reviews – good or bad – which makes it clear they don’t care about customer experience or accountability. So I’m writing this for other diners: avoid this place. I regularly dine at places like Cactus Club and higher-end restaurants, and there is absolutely no justification for what Five charges versus what it delivers.
We will never return.

This was my first visit to Five after living in the area for the past 18 years. We chose to dine here on the last night my parents were visiting from Ontario. My elderly dad can sometimes be difficult and may come across as rude, but our waitress, Zena, handled his comments with incredible professionalism, patience, and grace.

The service was the best I’ve experienced in White Rock, and the food was absolutely delicious. As a vegetarian, I was especially impressed by the amount of flavour in the linguine.

Thank you again, Zena, for making our evening so memorable!

Clowder pic from Dad’s meal.

We went here twice over a 2 say period. Kim, our server, was super attentive, and hugged my Aunts and Uncle as we were leaving telling us what a joy it was for her.

The dishes are well presented and tasty. The local oysters were plump and delicious. The prices are high, but it is a tourist area. My Uncle had only good things to say about the fresh lobster and crab.

Edit : Congratulations Kimberly, your lack of service knocked Five down to 3 stars on our second visit here! You successfully ignored us, overlooked us, looked right past us when you had 2 other tables. Perhaps look into a new line of work?

Our first visit, a 5 star. We MIGHT return ?

This was my first visit here and we enjoyed our meals!
Unfortunately out of oysters and only 1 crab left when we wanted 2.
Our server was nice but didn’t really come around enough times, and we ended up having to flag down a co-worker of hers to signal her to bring us the bill.
I will say that my halibut was overcooked but she made it right by bringing out another piece that was cooked to perfection so points to her for that.
We will definitely dine here again and try some other dishes!

Five Kitchen & Oyster Bar exceeded every expectation tonight. The food was absolutely outstanding—fresh, beautifully prepared, and full of flavor. The atmosphere was incredibly romantic with great vibes, making it the perfect spot for a special evening. A huge shoutout to Elizabeth, our server, who truly went above and beyond. Her attentiveness, warmth, and attention to detail made our experience unforgettable. From start to finish, everything was exceptional. We’ll definitely be back and highly recommend this place to anyone looking for amazing food and an unforgettable dining experience in White Rock.

Such a gem! The food was amazing. Our server Kimberly was friendly and attentive. The outside table with a beautiful view was phenomenal. Truly enjoyed our dinner. And the town of White Rock was so quaint and so beautiful. Loved it.

Absolute garbage. I got the 2 piece. Tiny fish that taste like frozen store bought, Mccaine fries. Just terrible. Do not believe these false reviews. I paid $39 fo 2 tiny, gross fish, mccaine super fries and a completely flat pepsi, plus til. Terrible place to eat. Very unpleasant server. Absolute trash food. I should have taken a picture of how terrible it also looks. Avoid this place like the plague. Go literally anywhere else. I swear I am not joking! I am absolutely shocked how terrible I feel after eating this trash. Go literally anywhere else. Go to the grocery store and get frozen fish and fries, would taste much better. Very uncomfortable experience. I’m so hungr still, complete BS! Tear this place down pleaaaaaaaaaase!!!!!!!!

Absolutely outstanding oyster experience! The oysters were incredibly fresh, perfectly chilled, and beautifully presented. Each one had that clean, briny flavor with a subtle sweetness that truly tasted like the ocean. The texture was smooth and delicate — exactly what you hope for in high-quality oysters.

Came for the paella and tried their lobster ravioli as well. Both were delicious! Great location, right across the pier, near public parking, and there was an ice cream shop next door. Service was great! It wasn’t too busy so our server was especially attentive. I’m not too sure about the rustic vibe of the restaurant, but it was clean.
