Came here with my family for the first time lastnight, and we had a good dinner. I ordered the shaved ribeye sandwich and my had a steak. We both enjoyed our meals, only thing I would say negative, was the wait for the food to come took awhile and the Au-jus could use more flavor. Pretty solid spot though.

We stopped for a quick bite to eat on our trip home from GA. We had tried to stop at multiple other places but everywhere was horribly busy. We had not realized that we picked the worst town, at the worst possible time of day, while OSU was playing Michigan. ‍♀️ Deap9te the sports chaos, this was a great choice for lunch. Kathy was our server, she was super nice and very attentive. The food came quickly and both my husband and I loved the food. The only thing my husband said would have made the meal better was fresh cut fries.

Local Steak and Seafood restaurant with a much larger menu than expected. Good prices and friendly quick service. Parking lot gives away that this is a very popular local eatery.

Since I had not been here before, I was pleasantly surprised when our dinners were brought out. It tasted as good as it looked!
The rolls were hot and delicious and the croutons on the salad were light and crispy.

Our first visit and we were not disappointed. Our group of 11 were well taken care of by Ashley. Everyone’s food was delicious. I had the prime rib and it was perfect. Definitely will go back.

We came in from Florida to visit and I’ve never been to rakes before. I ordered the gumbo and was excellent. I also ordered the peel and eat shrimp. To my surprise the shrimp was better than any shrimp I get and I live on the gulf coast . What a surprise when you get better seafood in Ohio. Everyone’s meal was delicious and prices were on point for the size of the portions. Would definitely recommend the place. Will comeback

Update 3/19/15

I stopped by Rake’s Place on a special night when they were offering a limited menu for Maria Adornetto’s event. Since this wasn’t their typical menu, I tried to evaluate the meal without letting the special items influence my judgment too much. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to expectations, and I walked away feeling pretty disappointed.

I sampled one of each of the special items, including Spaghetti and Meatballs, Crab Cakes, Pan-Seared Walleye, and Scallopini.

* Spaghetti and Meatballs: This dish was probably the biggest letdown. The pasta was overcooked and mushy, and the sauce was bland, lacking seasoning and flavor. To make matters worse, the dish was cold when it arrived at the table, which is never a good sign. I had been really looking forward to this dish, but it fell flat in every way.
* Crab Cakes: The crab cakes were fine, but nothing special. They were decent, but they didn’t stand out in any way. I was hoping for a bit more finesse or flavor.
* Pan-Seared Walleye: Another disappointment. I was expecting a more flavorful, fresh fish dish, but the walleye came across as mushy and had a slight fishy taste. It didn’t feel fresh and likely wasn’t, which is frustrating given that this is a steak and seafood restaurant. For the price, I expected better quality.
* Scallopini: The scallopini was also underwhelming. The meat was overcooked and more chewy than I’d like, and the side of pasta that came with it had no flavor. Again, this dish didn’t live up to the standards I was hoping for.
In terms of overall experience, I was really excited to try this special menu, but I left feeling disappointed. Had this been part of their regular menu, I likely would never return, and I would have rated it lower. The food didn’t match the price point, especially considering the underwhelming quality of the spaghetti.

Finally, I have to mention the credit card fee on the bill. It was listed with a note explaining that the charge was less than the fees they incur, and it was just a bit off-putting. It was a 3% surcharge. The note felt cringy, as if it was trying to justify the charge. If the restaurant is really paying more than 3% in credit card processing fees, I’d be surprised.

All in all, Rake’s Place has a reputation to uphold, but on this night, the special menu left much to be desired. I’m hoping it was just an off night for them, but based on this experience, I’m not in a rush to return.

Original 4 star review

Stopped here for brunch on Sunday morning. It wasn’t too busy and the service was okay. I had the special which was a French toast sandwich. It had was French toast with eggs, sausage, ham and cheese. It was a tasty combo.

Went for an early dinner on NYE and it was packed, but service was still good. The rolls are sooo soft and fluffy. We tried the crab stuffed mushrooms, which I loved. The lobster tails were huge and those that had them said they were cooked perfectly. They were out of walleye that night. The bathrooms are a bit small, but clean. Numerous tvs with different sporting eve ts on and there is a large bar area.

We’re from St Clairsville & were looking for a place in Zanesville to meet our son who goes to Ohio University somewhat halfway. We could not be happier that we happened upon this gem! The atmosphere was fantastic & we were seated quickly in the dining room. Ms. Michelle, the manager, greeted us at our table, gave us a very brief history of the six year old restaurant, & promised this would not be our last visit. She sure delivered on that promise! We ordered the filet cooked medium rare, parmesan crusted chicken breast, & blackened salmon. The portions were more than ample, cooked to perfection, served very timely. The sides(roasted carrots, side salad, wedge salad(fave), mashed potatoes, & broccoli) were yummy, & the warm apple pie with vanilla ice cream dessert was as warm & sweet as our server Ms Brandee! To say we were “happy” with our visit to Rake’s Place would be a disservice to the exceptional dining experience you should expect. Get your tail there! They will not disappoint! Huge shout out to the entire staff at Rake’s Place! See y’all soon!

I was lucky enough to talk to the chef about frog legs. What I received just might be the best frog legs, ever. Oh, the crab cakes were outstanding. Definitely recommend Rakes.
