Reviews
Service was good overall, attentive and professional without feeling overbearing. The menu offers a wide variety of options, which makes it easy to find something for everyone, especially if you enjoy sharing dishes. You can tell this is a place people come to explore the menu rather than just order one entrée and call it a night.
We started with the Signature Crab Puffs, which were good but not very flavorful pleasant, just not memorable. The Crispy Chicken Rolls weren’t my favorite at all, though my partner really enjoyed them, so that one may come down to personal taste. The Spicy Butter Chicken Dumplings were interesting, but for me the spice completely overpowered the dish and that’s all I could taste.
The standout for me was the Tuna Cigars, hands down my favorite item of the night. They were so good and easily the most balanced and flavorful dish we had. From the secret kitchen, we also ordered AN’s Famous Garlic Roasted Dungeness Crab, which was really good and clearly one of the reasons people come here. Rich, indulgent, and well-executed.
Crustacean definitely has a following and is talked about throughout the San Francisco area. That said, for the price point, there are definitely better options nearby. Still, if you want to experience the famous garlic noodles and crab, I’d recommend making a reservation and stopping in at least once to see what the hype is about.
Crustacean never disappoints.
We wrapped up our evening here and it was absolutely incredible from start to finish. The Truffle Hamachi was light, buttery, and perfectly balanced with rich umami flavor — one of the best bites of the night. The famous garlic noodles were everything they’re known for: savory, silky, and addictive.
The roasted crab was cooked perfectly, loaded with flavor, and worth every crack of the shell. My wife ordered the ginger sea bass, and it was tender, flaky, and infused with just the right amount of warmth and spice. Every dish came out beautifully presented and packed with flavor.
On top of the food, the ambiance and service were top-tier. This is one of my favorite restaurants to visit whenever I’m in San Francisco — a must-stop every time. Food was delicious across the board.
Highly recommend if you’re looking for an unforgettable dining experience.

We ordered a couple of cocktails which were all delicious, on the sweeter side, but that’s my preference anyways.
As for dishes, we did family style and had the bo kho dumplings (delicious), fried calamari (nothing special but still good), roasted cauliflower and Brussels (sweet and roasted), garlic crab with no shell (must order), garlic noodles (must order), shaken beef (also delicious), and seafood fried rice (basic but good).
Prices are definitely on the steeper end, but that’s expected given the location. There’s an option to have your crab cracked with no shell for an additional $10, which I think is well worth it.
Would definitely come back again!
Our party of five made a solid dent in the menu, with mixed reviews.
Standouts:
Truffle Hamachi – Summer truffle carpaccio, ponzu, tobiko caviar, scallions.
The hamachi was rich, buttery, and clean, pairing beautifully with the deep, earthy aroma of truffles. Bright citrus from the ponzu cut through the richness, while the tobiko added crisp, salty pops for contrast.
Shrimp & Lobster Dumplings – With squid ink tuile.
Plump and juicy with a lovely balance of sweet and savory. The skin had a satisfying, toothsome chew without being thick or gummy. The squid ink tuile didn’t bring much to the party. Unnecessary for a dumpling dish. It was more like a flavorless cracker than a meaningful addition.
Good, Not Great:
Bone Marrow with Escargot – Rau ram, garlic, toast.
Decadent and indulgent, but ultimately underseasoned. Both elements leaned heavily into richness without enough acidity or brightness to bring balance.
Filet Mignon Shaken Beef – Wok-flamed onions, watercress, twice-cooked potatoes.
The beef was nicely tender, but the sauce didn’t quite cook down into a glaze, making the dish a bit too wet. It also lacked that signature caramelized, slightly crispy edge you expect from a great shaken beef.
Okay, Not Bad:
Tiger Prawns with AN’s Famous Garlic Noodles. The prawns overly salty. The garlic noodles were pedestrian something easily found at far less “swanky” spots.
Seafood Fried Rice – Dungeness crab, scallop, shrimp, egg, scallion.
Nicely seasoned with good overall flavor, but light on the crab.
Disappointing:
AN’s Famous Garlic Roasted Dungeness Crab™ (MP)
The supposed showpiece fell flat. The crab was on the dry side and lacked the bold roasted garlic punch we were expecting.
We had high hopes going in thanks to all the buzz, but the experience didn’t quite match the hype.
Happy eating!!
First time at the new location. It was already decorated for the holidays.
Small plates are indeed small and the lunch plates are on the lighter side as well but had to try. Splurge on the crab, current MP is $96
Garlic Crab: We went with the whole crab (instead of paying $10 extra for it to be de-shelled) after noticing most tables around us ordered it that way. Cracking it open was messy but fun – they give you bibs, crackers, and plenty of napkins. The crab was huge, super meaty, and absolutely drenched in their famous garlic sauce. Presentation was on point, and I appreciated that the crab butter was intact. The hot towel they bring after is such a nice touch.
Garlic Noodles: Hands down one of the best versions I’ve had. Cooked perfectly, tossed with garlic and butter, but not greasy at all. Simple but addictive.
Shaken Beef: The beef was tender and flavorful, though I secretly wished it came out sizzling or “shaking” like I am used to seeing. I usually don’t eat potatoes but the twice cooked potatoes were so crispy and divine.
Dessert: We ended with the fried banana and baked Alaska. Both were great, but if you only order one – get the baked Alaska. The toasted meringue, the rich chocolate cake, the warm-and-cold combo, it’s a showstopper. It’s big enough to share, and honestly, I’m still thinking about it while writing this review. The fried banana was light and paired well with the ice cream, but the baked Alaska is unforgettable.
Overall: Crustacean nails the high-end Vietnamese dining experience while still feeling fresh and modern. Perfect for date night or a night out with friends.
Pro tip: there’s plenty of street parking after 7 pm!
