We came in today, Tuesday evening. Excellent food and even better service. We had the Grilled cheese and a Hot dog and they were better than any we’ve had before. Pricing was reasonable portions were great and our server regularly checked on us and offered us the best service. We for sure will be coming back here. Great experience.

Love Velvet Creamery and their ice cream creations! Great quality and my friend’s Hot Fudge Brownie sundae was enough for two at about 10 bucks. My ice cream soda was full of ice cream at about 8 bucks. Really great. Like an old fashioned soda! Like when I used to be a soda jerk in the 70’s. Also will try their roasted butternut salad next. Lots of old fashioned cafe foods and burgers. Extremely friendly waitresses; make you feel welcome! Going back many times I am sure!

My wife and I dined in just after the lunch rush about 1:30pm on Saturday in mid Nov 2025. We had a choice of tables, but there were 5 tables that had not yet been cleared and didn’t get cleared until we were nearly done eating. My wife had the french dip sandwich and I ordered the meatloaf sandwich and a bowl of chili, but the waitress assumed that I wanted the chili instead of fries and not as a side. She got me the fries after delivering my sandwich and chili. I enjoy a good meatloaf sandwich, but this was not that. The chili soup was okay, but I’ve had better. The milkshakes looked good, but weren’t on our diet. The restaurant could have been more tidy, but it might be due to the timing we were there. The staff was very friendly, attentive and accommodating and in the end didn’t bill me for the chili soup even after I indicated it was missing from the bill.

I am so glad this place is still here. I was a kid when they opened up. I remember my father taking me and the family out as a reward for passing a reading skills test when I was in 1st grade. Way back in the 80s. My family is mostly passed away so I am glad this place is still here and their food is still pretty good. I like tbeir salads.

Food was edible, except the soup… It seems that the soup is never hot when it’s served at these restaurants. This was our first time it’s this particular restaurant in the chain and the soup was almost cold. We sent it back and took the Fries instead… The un club sandwich was not something I would order again. Our servers were attentive and the food came out Timely. Men’s bathroom smelled clean but there was a lot of paper products on the floor. The amenities were dated. The main restaurant only had a few tables to accommodate larger people… As booths don’t always work. I would not go back to this restaurant again however I will return to the Modesto restaurant on McHenry. The whip cream on the milkshake was kind of chunky. Not appetizing.
