I ordered the turkey dinner that came with a side, and the soup and salad bar.
My friend ordered the chicken croquettes, also with a side and the soup and salad bar.
The salad bar was clearly not being checked or refreshed. Maybe the temperature is too low? Many items looked like they had been sitting too long, had changed color or wilted. Some items had not been restocked. It was a pretty sad salad bar.
My friend did appreciate the hard boiled eggs and said they were good.
The soup tureens were off to the side, both had nice choices; vegetable and chicken noodle. I chose the chicken noodle which was a nice light broth. My friend said the vegetable soup was pretty good. Neither was piping hot as soup usually is, no need to cool on the spoon.
Shortly after sitting to enjoy our salad and soup, our meals came.
I was taken aback by the color of the gravy, a bright yellow glazed over my plate. The onion rings were in a cute basket, nice touch.
My friend’s croquettes also had the same bright yellow gravy. It was off- putting, (Think Cousin Eddie at the Vegas buffet asking for some of the “yella”…we found it resting on our plates!!! Ha!!!), but, I really wanted that turkey dinner so, I dug into my meal. Again, the food was not hot, (What is with the temperature issues here???), gravy had started to congeal. That’s always fun playing “Beat the congeal!” The turkey was average but plentiful. The gravy actually wasn’t bad, just cold and the worst color. I found my mashers hiding under the turkey. There they are!!! I was shocked that they too were yellow, not just the gravy but also the actual potatoes. I’m surprised I couldn’t find them with that glow.
My side of onion rings were pretty tasty and warm.
My friend did not like the croquettes at all, or the gravy. He left most of his meal on his plate. He did like his side of pasta a lot.
Did I mention the sides are a bit different from most diners?
Our server was a really polite young man, quick and friendly.
The server handling the table next to us was also really polite. She suggested options for the two small children seated next to us with their parents.
I did notice that the wait staff were all mainly teenager to young adults who spent some serious time, (After serving the tables), gathered at the front counter chatting loud enough to be heard across the room.
I sympathize with trying to fill down time, and keeping staff happy but, maybe in down time someone could have restocked and refreshed the salad bar? Maybe the conversations could have been held in the back room where there weren’t any diners?
Ok, back to the food…
I brought most of my meal home. Microwaving it to a hot temperature made a huge difference. It wasn’t actually bad when heated properly.
While I don’t know if we will return for lunch, we may for breakfast as the folks next to us got some delicious looking food.
