It all started with the hostess!
She was amazing. Very detailed..and personable. Her presence at the front door was so inviting!
Atmosphere = calming-homelike…
Food = scrumptious (seafood pasta special)
Drinks= knockout (spicy paloma)
It’s an experience you have to try.

Saw this place and popped in cause I’m always gonna be curious about a bakery. Was not expecting it to be tiny store front and I was kinda taken aback about how messy the displays were covered in plastic wrap. So I’m not sure if everything was baked fresh this day.

Service was fine.

I made a panic purchase and grabbed a blueberry oatmeal cookie and it was one of the best oatmeal cookies I’ve had. I wished I had grabbed. Couple.

I went there to see a musician playing for dinner time…and though they had no patio seating available- they made a makeshift area for me to sit to watch him sing. I had an appetizer and a beer and it was delicious. Loved the vibe on a beautiful summer night. The server Sarah was attentive and the Host was friendly and accommodating. I

Really well prepared meal well worth the price. We visited on a very busy Tuesday fall night for an early dinner. The restaurant is funky, comfortable, and relaxed, with friendly servers and really good food. We ordered non-alcoholic sparkling strawberry lemonade drinks that were really nice. The complimentary bread starter came with olive oil with a strong hit of roasted garlic. Our entrees included a seafood special (salmon, haddock, shrimp, and mussels) served over arugula herbed risotto. The fish was very fresh and the risotto was well prepared. The dish was very good, with bold favors from lots of Parmesan and garlic. Maybe the chef is showing a theme here, although it may be a little too much bold for some. We also had the Cajun spiced Tacos with chicken that were nicely cooked and very tasty. Service was prompt, the food was served hot, and the portions were generous. The only hiccup of the evening was that a large party came in after us that took a lot of attention so we had to wait quite a bit to get our check. But that wasn’t the server’s fault, and she apologized sincerely, so we didn’t hold that against them too much. Prices were appropriate given the quality of the food and the service, so I wouldn’t hesitate to eat here again.

Slates has good food, and our meal was no exception. But something was wrong with either the kitchen or service because the time between our salads and our main course was about 30 minutes. I was only halfway through my dish and the server was clearing plates and bringing coffee. We definitely felt rushed.

For starters we had the crab cakes and aioli which were great, although slightly dry. The bread is awesome and it’s a generous portion.

The seafood risotto is very tasty although this one was swimming in olive oil. The flatiron steak was delicious- great sauce and perfectly cooked. The lobster roll is also a great choice. The sides of mashed potatoes and roasted carrots are awesome.

We finished with a M&Ms cookie and a lemon bar. Both were just okay- seems like they weren’t super fresh.

We tried Slate’s for brunch and everyone in our party was generally pleased with the food, service and atmosphere. Our one critique – and we all thought it a valid one – is that the meal prices on the in-person menu were wildly higher than what was advertised on the web. With times being what they are, this could make for an unpleasant surprise for anyone planning a meal there, based off the clearly out of date pricing still visible on the web.

A simple web update would seem very much in order here. Beyond that, we would definitely recommend giving Slate’s a try.

Truly my favorite restaurant in Maine for so many reasons.
The ladies operating this incredible place have been in business over 45 years, they know what they’re doing. Never walked away hungry or disappointed. Alana knocks the drinks out of the park, as does Danielle. Truly a great place any time of year; be it a Sunday brunch or dinner the rest of the week.

The food was incredible, the dessert was perfect, the service was great. It’s definitely loud in there but the food makes it so worth it. I love the eclectic art all over the place, the hand painted tables, the plant life, the beautiful lamps, the beams upstairs. The whole package!!

I’ve been to Slate’s four times this year, for both brunches and dinners. Everything I have had so far has been top notch. Rarely have anything leftover to take home, except their baked goods! The drinks are always on-point, and drink specials and local beers are often rotated. A nice place for couples….

I liked this place a lot. The atmosphere is warm, colorful, arty … And the staff are super friendly and responsive. We both had the teriyaki tofu special with some interesting veggies and relishes. My friend had a giant ginger snap cookie for dessert, which they served w/ a dab of whipped cream. A local treasure.
