If you’re looking for real authentic Mexican food in Atlantic City, this place is a must-visit.
The food tastes homemade and full of flavor — not watered down or Americanized. The food was incredible! You can tell everything is made fresh and seasoned the way it should be.
The atmosphere is simple and welcoming, giving it that true neighborhood restaurant feel rather than a touristy vibe. Service was friendly and attentive, and the portions were very very generous for the price.
Overall, this is one of the few places in Atlantic City where you can find genuine Mexican flavors that remind you of real street food.
⭐ Highly recommend if you want authentic Mexican food.

I was in Atlantic City for a concert and had heard good things about El Tacuate Mexican Restaurant. Thankfully, we decided to check it out! It’s a small, unassuming spot with a welcoming vibe. We dined in and ordered chips and salsa to start, followed by al pastor tacos and chicken fajitas. Everything was absolutely delicious—flavorful, fresh, and generously portioned. The tacos were packed with perfectly seasoned meat, and the fajitas came out sizzling and loaded with toppings. I’d definitely dine here again next time I’m in town.

I’m from Southern California visiting. I think it’s always hard to find that good “authentic” Mexican food. This spot was pretty good! Jamaica agua was delicious, chips were fresh and good (not greasy) and the burrito was so filling. Couldn’t eat it all. Loved the little salad it came with

Little small cute mom and pop restaurant; I’d come back. Thank you for the delicious food!

I dined at El Tacuate Mexican Restaurant in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and overall, the food was good and enjoyable. The flavors were solid, the dishes were well prepared, and everything tasted fresh and satisfying.

The main downside was the price, which felt higher than average—especially considering that a short drive outside of Atlantic City would get you similar quality Mexican food for less. It wasn’t bad, just noticeably more expensive than expected.

One thing to note is that there’s an additional charge when paying by credit card, which would’ve been nice to know upfront.

That said, if you’re staying in Atlantic City and want a convenient spot with good Mexican food, this place is a decent option. Just be prepared for slightly higher prices due to the location.

I visited El Tacuate Mexican Restaurant in mid-April 2025. We decided to visit as it was near our hotel. The restaurant has indoor seating about 4 tables with chairs. The restaurant accepts both cash and card. But note if you pay via card there is a surcharge. My daughter ordered the chicken birria tacos. We decided to take out. My daughter said these were dry and tasteless. She was highly disappointed as the aroma from the food on the walk back to the hotel was memorizing. She didn’t finish them and decided to discard them. We’re from the Bronx and we know what Mexican food tastes like. When we return to Atlantic City we will not be returning to this restaurant.

Amazing experience at El Tecuate. The seating is crowded and limited but the vibe is great.

The staff were kind, the service was fast, the portions large, and the food? EXCELLENT.

We ordered the quesadilla, al pastor tacos, rice, beans, and chips and salsa. The prices and food are some of the best in the city!

If you’re on the hunt for a fiesta on your plate, El Tacuate is where you want to be! The food? Pretty darn good! While the prices might make your wallet do a little shimmy, the portions are so massive that you’ll likely leave with a doggy bag (or two!).

Both my dining partner and I were defeated by our generous servings—seriously, it’s like they want you to take a siesta afterward! The flavors were vibrant, and each bite felt like a mini celebration of Mexico.

So, if you’re ready to indulge in some hearty portions and vibrant flavors, El Tacuate is worth a visit. Just bring your appetite and maybe a friend to help tackle those plate-sized portions!

For a hole in the wall place they have amazing food here. Big portions, smells awesome, and tastes great. No public bathroom from what we saw it was out of order. You have to pay to park if you park in front of the store, but parking is no much. Look at the menu before you go as the ordering counter is small and there are only 4-5 tables you can sit at inside to eat. I had the TLAYUDA there and eating half of it filled me, definitely can feed two people.
