Went last night before the theatre. It was busy but not rammed. Was put round a corner where we were stuck and all had to move to get out. The waiter came and asked if we were ready to order about 10 mins after we arrived. We ordered drinks and our food as nobody had been to take drinks order. The started (garlic bread and mushrooms) took another 25 mins to arrive. We then had another 35 min wait for the mains (pizza and 2 chicken dishes). I had to go up and ask where the mains were as we had been there over an hour. Instead of apologising she said ‘I’ll check’.
When paying, the chef asked if all had been ok. I said the food service was very slow. He said ‘yes it has’. Again no apology and no apology at any point whilst waiting.
Food was just ok but pricey for what it was as the portions were small. . Won’t rush back. You would think being opposite the theatre, serving efficiently would be there bread and butter and they would be good at it. They have been there years.

We had a pre theatre table booked at 6pm. We arrived at 6:05pm to be greeted rather rudely by what looked to be the Manager with a “you’re late”. In hindsight we should have just walked out, the welcome was wholly inappropriate.

We were ushered upstairs to what was possibly an overspill room. It was small with a cross over to the kitchen and we were given a table next to the toilets.

The food took an age to arrive, the place was busy given the imminent theatre performance. The garlic bread and cheese was just two small pieces from a baguette at a cost of over £5. The pizza was small and the requested extra topping consisted of 4 anchovies. The lasagne was tasty but again a very small portion. No Parmesan offered for the mains. The third main course was adequate.

Due to the late arrival of our food we were now pushed for time so when it arrived we asked for our bill. We were told to pay at the bar downstairs along with a raft of other people which caused a further delay.

At a cost of £80 we left very underwhelmed. We went across the road to watch Faulty Towers which was rather apt. As many have observed, this place must survive off of customers heading to the theatre.

As they say, vote with your feet, we won’t be back.

The pasta dish was delicious & a good size portion as was the cheesecake & glass of wine. Good value for money. The staff were really pleasant & polite. Would highly recommend eating here.

We arrived at 17:20 for a booking we made for 17:30. The restaurant was very nicely presented and was extremely busy. When we gave our names for the booking there was a slight confusion by the front of house lady who was clearly flustered. We ordered a bottle of wine while we made our food choice. When we placed the order we asked if we could have a small break between the starter and the main but were told it wasn’t possible due to how busy the restaurant was so we accepted that. The starters came and my wife’s looked very nice and she did praise the food mine however was 2 slices from a baguette with 2 small quenelles of very grainy pate for £10.50 ! We waited several minutes and started to notice that people who came in after us had been served and had left. We waited over an hour and had ordered another bottle of wine to have with our mains when the very polite young waitress came over and asked if we wanted coffee or desserts to which I replied “we’ve not had our mains yet” This started a sequence of disastrous commotion starting with the waitress reporting back we’d not had our mains and then looking very panicked and taking the order to the kitchen. By 19:00 still no food and we had a show to go to opposite the restaurant so my wife asked if the food was coming only to be met by a very abrasive response of “it’s coming ok !” We then waited another 10 minutes and no food so we cancelled the mains in order to get to the theatre. The front of house lady then became very aggressive and said “ well you wanted a break anyway “ my wife challenged her attitude only to be met with more aggression and told “ you have 2 bottles of wine on an empty stomach !” We were not the only ones paying and complaining but for us to be met by such rude and aggressive behaviour was both shocking and unwarranted. If they cannot cope with the bookings then do not accept them and certainly do not vent your anger and frustration out on paying customers. To summarise it was mediocre food at best the worst service we have experienced and our concerns were met with attitude and aggression. Avoid at all costs !!!!

Myself and 2 others had a meal last night. The main meals were very nice, the service was good and friendly so no complaints there. However the starters were different. 2 of us ordered the potato and leek soup. It barely covered the bottom of the bowl at at £8.50 per portion it was the most expensive soup I have ever had in my life. In my opinion they had ran out but instead of saying it was off they served. If I was you I would definitely avoid as not value for money. Also I asked for Parmesan for my pasta and was told they had ran out! How can an Italian restaurant at 7.45pm on a Saturday night have no Parmesan? Also there is a massive Tesco 5 min walk away. I was just told the previous table had finished it! Unacceptable in my opinion. It cost £35 which was really for a glass of average Red wine and a main meal. A bit steep.

Could not agree more with all the negative reviews. Attitude of some of the staff was disgusting, the manager must have the same script for all complaints “ We offer fresh food not fast food” is what we got told. And “we guarantee that you will make the theatre, not that you won’t have to wait” Who said we were going to the theatre?!. We don’t mind waiting, but to wait 1hr 10 for our only course…. And see everyone else get served around us that arrived AFTER us. No check ins with us from the waitress upstairs, no drinks asked for when sat with empty glasses for 40mins nor an apology when ithe food arrived. When paying on our way out there was already another table waiting to complain. 100% agree that if it wasn’t for the theatres, this place would not exist.
A real shame as the food we got was lovely, not as hot as it could have been but nice.
Will not be returning to this restaurant, if you’re looking for a good restaurant with great service, avoid this and go to Robertos! (It was fully booked or we would have spent our money there instead!)

Fine dining is reflected with the chefs passion for ingredients and fresh produce. The two chefs are always competing to make each dish better every time. I recommend the scallops starter, as an example where each chef has tweaked the dish to get higher and higher praise each time it’s served.
Service is impeccable, which is what you would expect from a Maitre d’hotel from the armed forces, serving in the officer’s mess.
I can’t recommend this restaurant enough, as today we live in a world of pub grub and a decline in fine dining experiences which should make you feel that you have had “a special meal”

The food was nice, but portions size could be bigger. My partner stayed hungry
We had starter, main and dessert. Beer is expensive.

Popped in pre-theatre and was unfortunately very disappointed. Garlic bread at £6 was a 4inch piece of baguette cut in half and toasted on the top – what a trenendous GP they’re making there! Mains of seafood linguine made with watered down tomato soup 1 king prawn 1 squid ring and a slice of scallop no thicker than a chocolate coin!! Then the Veal…..this was truly awful and an absolute joke at £26!! 3 small flattened pieces of veal which was tough as old boots accompanied by some mushy potatoes, green beans and carrots and a watery gravy. I was under the impression the Italians coined the term ‘al dente’!! Not at all value for money and when asked by the owner how our food was I said the veal was terribly tough and was met with a shrug of the shoulders and a steak knife put on the table!! Not really the response we were looking for. We’d already waited 45 minutes for our food and were at risk if being late for the theatre, if we’d had more time we’d both have sent our food back as inedible, as it was we ate quickly, paid the bill and left. No time left for desserts, had the chefs been a bit quicker we’d probably have gone for in the hope of them redeeming our experience. No apology, nothing, and we were completely ignored as we left- not great hospitality at all. This restaurant appears to be all fur coat and no knickers as the restaurant itself looks good but unfortunately the food is dreadful. £73 bill for 2 main courses a couple of drinks and a teeny tiny portion if garlic bread!
