I asked a local where to eat and they said I had to try KB’s BBQ. The atmosphere is very nice and homey. The wait staff was working hard and very attentive even during a busy lunch rush. I had an Italian beef sandwich and baked beans, both of which were superb and finished it off with a piece of apple pie. I’m definitely going to stop by again when I’m there next to try something else!

A quaint little bbq restaurant in SOUTHERN ILLINOIS.. Just out of reach of RT. 13.. Tucked away in the eastern edge of Marion.. lies a great place to eat!! I had the bbq.. (of course i had to try) They had several style of sauce I had the honor of introducing myself to.. ALL VERY well balanced and tailored to your own style of taste.. Each sauce is its own world of unique flavors… Taking you down a road that you WILL ENJOY… I also hear from the locals that their catfish filets are TO DIE FOR!! OVERALL GREAT PLACE TO EAT AND JUST SIT FOR A BIT AND PONDER LIFE OR RECOUP FROM A HARD DAYS WORK…

Not a big fan. Orders were mixed up on ribs, waitress was forgetting who ordered what. The food was ok. I liked the fish but didn’t care for the ribs. I don’t like the BBQ sauce. I also wasn’t a fan of their potatoe salad. Prices were good, my chair seemed like it was loose and needed some repairs. Overall it may be for some but I personally didn’t like it. I do want to side note that others I was with, think the thick pork chops were very good.

Ordered 2 Custard pies for Christmas at $50 + tax. They were the WORST any of us had ever eaten. No nutmeg & completely tasteless, crust was NOT homemade. Of 8 people, no one liked it and we ended up trashing 1 full pie and the other that had only been sampled.
Hadn’t ordered pie from there in 5 years because then the cherry was mostly filling with the least amount of actual cherries any of us had ever seen. Those pies got trashed also. When I spoke to the husband owner he said cherries were really expensive so he used less. I replied that he shouldn’t have been selling them to begin with. Never did get an apology from this surly man.
Mom is the pie maker in our family and she wasn’t feeling well so I thought we’d give KB another chance this year, that perhaps if we ordered non-fruit pies we’d be okay. Nope, and we’re never ordering there again.

We ordered baby back ribs, fiddler catfish, and Italian beef sandwich. The food and sides were good. We ordered chocolate pie and coconut cream pie for dessert. We were pleased with our dinner.

The food was great! I loved my catfish, and my granddaughter loved her chopped pork. (She did not like that her bun was toasted, I wish we had been given an option) Unfortunately, the service was not great. I’ve only been there once, four years ago, and my 5 year old granddaughter had never been there, so we knew nothing about their menu. But I literally could not get the waitress to answer my questions. And the little bit she did tell me contradicted what the menu said! Ordering was not pleasant. And then when we were done and ready to leave, we could not get anyone to come to the table! Absolutely NONE of the employees would make eye contact with me while I desperately searched for someone that i could ask for a take-home container and our bill!! One employee stood on the other side of the counter beside our booth boxing up desserts and would NOT look up! I finally reached over and took my own box… which finally got peoples attention! So they brought me a to go cup and my bill. When we went to pay, the person running the cash register (the same person who would not acknowledge me while packing up desserts) was on the phone…. F O R E V E R! She FINALLY put the call on hold to ring us up, and we got out of there… to a disaster of a parking lot that LITERALLY took me 10 minutes to get out of!! I truly want to support small businesses!! And the food really was very good. But we were not made to feel welcome or appreciated AT ALL!! And there is no excuse for the parking situation! They’ve been in business long enough they should have an organized parking lot that does not leave cars trapped!

KB BBQ is the best in Southern Illinois, and likely in all of Illinois. Been coming here since I was a toddler, back when it was Pulley’s. It’s as good now as it was then!
