This DIY omakase experience is such a fun meal to grab with friends, family, or on a date. I highly recommend reservations as it can get busy. It’s a traditional experience, where you take off your shoes at the entrance and sit on the floor. The interior of the restaurant has an “outside” portion, with a clear ceiling (but you are still inside) and it’s absolutely stunning. Service was super attentive and polite.

We did the omakase set for $78pp and it was delicious. You are given 12 cuts of fish with 9 different salts. For your dining experience, you can mix and match the fish and salts to curate your own meal. You are also given a menu providing the name of each of the fish and salts, as well as recommendations on how to pair them. If after the meal you are still hungry, they also offer an al carte menu for you to order more. We got their milk ice cream with soy bean powder at the end, and I absolutely loved it. Would love to come back here sometime.

A true enjoyable cultural experience.
Upon entering you are greeted and asked to remove your shoes and wash your hands. You are then escorted to your table to eat as you sit on cushiony floor pillows.
The presentation of the de-constructed Omakase is beautifully thought out and is accompanied by an array of salts and wasabi. Along with the fish you are given soup and seaweed wrappers letting you choose to wrap or not.
In addition to the Sushi Set we ordered the Everything Don dish and Tokubetsu Junmai Souden Sake to drink. If you enjoy sweet sake this is the perfect one.
The service was seamless with our waiter guiding us thru the different flavors.

It’s such a wonderful experience but be sure to be on time because seatings are very close together.

If Google Maps had eight stars, I’d give it all eight.

This place made me happy from the moment I sat down: warm, attentive staff and beautifully fresh fish. Every bite from the omakase pieces to the hand roll and chirashiwas pure joy, and the cozy vibe made the meal fly by. I’ll definitely be back.

P.S. Next time I ask for extra wasabi, a big generous scoop would be perfect so you don’t have to come back a few times .

Ume was such a great experience! The place is super cozy and you start by taking off your shoes and getting seated. We chose the garden seating where you have a low table and a cushion to sit on. It was very relaxing and welcoming.
Then we were served the standard omakase set. It comes with 12 pieces and 9 different salts and seasonings. You get rice and nori to build your own. It was super fun to assemble and try different combinations. The menu has some recommendations for each fish, but really you can’t go wrong. Everything is very high quality and super delicious.
The service was outstanding. Our server was incredibly kind and nice from beginning to end. He came to check on us, answer any questions and at the very end of the meal asked if we were celebrating anything special. We mentioned or birthdays were last month and he immediately went to get us ice cream with two candles. It was a great gesture and we really appreciated his hospitality.

What a great experience overall! Felt “traditional” in many ways and the service was top tier from the start to the finish. I loved the concept and the food was amazing as well. Great spot for a date, friends, birthday or just because.

We had an unforgettable experience at Ume for my mom’s birthday! Everything from the atmosphere to the service made the night special. It took us a bit to find the storefront (rain didn’t help!), so I do wish the sign was a little bigger. They run on a set schedule, but we didn’t wait long from our reservation time.

You remove your shoes and wash your hands before entering, which adds a nice traditional touch. The preset menu includes 12 unique nigiri pieces served in an aesthetic way, and you can order more afterward. I only wish we had more room! They even surprised us with what seemed like vanilla ice cream topped with peanut shavings, which ended up being our favorite part. Big thanks to our enthusiastic server for making the evening so memorable!

Very disappointing experience. The restaurant has gone downhill.

We last visited about two years ago, and the quality and overall experience have declined significantly.

From the start, the front area was poorly managed. The host allowed too many people into the shoe and handwashing area at once, causing overcrowding as guests were also trying to exit. Our table was cramped tightly against the wall, making it uncomfortable to sit and get up, and the table was still sticky when we sat down.

The food quality was unacceptable for the price. The fish did not taste fresh, and several pieces were chewy in a way you would not expect from good sushi, especially tuna. One piece on my wife’s plate was noticeably gray compared to the others. When she asked about it, she was told it was “a different cut.” I gave her one of my pieces to compare, and mine clearly tasted better.

The tea was especially disappointing. An $18 teapot arrived with two basic tea bags, paper tags still attached. This is inexpensive boxed tea and showed very little effort for a restaurant charging premium prices.

The bathrooms were consistently backed up with a line, appeared to be limited in number, and were filthy. There was also no warm water at the sinks, so everyone was washing their hands with cold water.

Service was inconsistent and inattentive. Our server would attend nearby tables but rarely checked on us, and we had to repeatedly call for attention.

Our total was over $480 for four people, roughly $120+ per person. For that price, we experienced low-quality fish, cramped seating, poor service, dirty bathrooms, and a lack of basic attention to detail. Unfortunately, this was our last visit.

My boyfriend secretly booked Ume for my birthday/our anniversary celebration, without even knowing I’d been dying to go.

The garden seating is beautiful despite being a bit too shiny. The whole ambiance is so zen and relaxing which makes it perfect for a special occasion.

Huge shoutout to the impeccable service: we were 30 minutes late stuck at traffic, but they still graciously held our table. They even surprised us with vanilla gelato with honey and kinako on the house, easily one of the most delicious scoops I’ve ever had.

*Sushi Set $78 pp
It was such a fun and interactive experience making our own hand rolls from a sashimi platter. We loved being able to enjoy everything at our own pace, customizing each piece with a variety of dipping sauces and special salts. It really encouraged me to slow down, savor every bite, and fully appreciate each piece.

*Literally Everything Don $60
We were greedy to try more so we got one more kaishindon. Expensive but you get what you pay for: uni, ikura, scallop, toro, a5 miyazaki wagyu, caviar, and more. Every bite was pure luxury and satisfying. I only hoped I could only get this don as I was too full after finishing the sushi set, but they require at least one sushi set per person.

*King Salmon Nigiri
To be completely transparent, my bf found a small bone in his sashimi. He was given a completely new set, and they even treated us to king salmon nigiri. We really appreciated how proactive and thoughtful they were so it didn’t affect our overall experience at all.

Really exceptional presentation and experience. I’d definitely come again or recommend to friends for a special occasion. My favorite were the different condiments that were hand selected from all over the world! Be aware the set meal, priced at $78, comes out to be about $100 when you factor in tax and tip)

What makes Ume special is the setting — you sit on the floor in a vibrant, beautifully designed room that feels authentically Japanese. A selection of fresh raw fish is brought to you, and the rest is DIY. It’s a dining experience that feels like creating edible art.
