What an absolutely charming afternoon tea we had at Polka Dot! This is not a hotel tea, this is more of a tea shoppe experience. Think less ‘starched tablecloths’ and more ‘cozy home made’. There has obviously been a great deal of thought and effort to create a welcoming and comfortable environment, a homey place to have a pot of tea and some bites.
We did have some expectations about the food because the store is primarily a bakery, and we were not disappointed! We started with warm scones (not reheated, mind you. Freshly baked scones!). These are tremendous scones. These are scones that are made by someone who knows that a scone is not a biscuit. That you must be careful not to overwork scone dough. I kid you not, I have not encountered scones this good since we were in London. Try these scones to know what scones should be like.
(an interesting twist – they started us out with a group pot of tea, which was fine for us. But if you’re used to being asked which tea you want, and being given an individual pot at tea, that’s not how they do it. After the initial pot, though, we could have a different choice)
We also received a mini quiche and a salad with chicken salad, an interesting and appealing divergence from the more common finger sandwiches.
The baked goods were the showcase of the tea, though, as expected. Very rich and chocolatey brownies, fresh made biscotti. Special call-out to the thumb print cookies. Extremely good base! If you look at these cookies and worry that they will have that grainy texture and taste you get in similar looking Italian bakery cookies, fear not. Lovely almost shortbread feel. You could taste the quality ingredients.
The staff were welcoming and present without being obstructive. We did not feel rushed but items arrived once we had finished savoring the last course.
I laughed out loud at the reviews who felt the bakery is too expensive. Do not go to afternoon tea anywhere else, you giant sillies. This tea was half what we paid a month ago in Staten Island and a quarter what you’d pay at a hotel. Extremely good bargain and in many cases the quality of the food exceeded name brand chef curated hotel teas we have had.

Best muffins I have ever tasted. I took a picture that does not look appetizing per se however I just wanted to show how much fruit is inside of a muffin so so yummy

A million stars! First, let me start by saying that I’ve never been to a bakery that entices you with the most delicious smell upon walking in! The bakery is gorgeous filled with lots of antique fixtures and vintage wallpaper. Everything has beautiful storage and you feel like you’re transported into a different time era. The staff is so nice and so accommodating. The maple scones are excellent! I’ve never had scones in my life that were so soft on the inside and perfection on the outside. They weren’t overtly sweet either which was perfect! The thumbprints are fantastic. The chocolate cookie sandwich was also excellent! I love that they offer various other deserts such as freshly- made cakes and coffees! I highly recommend this place and cannot wait to come again!

Cute and quaint coffeeshop; I felt like I stepped into the Cotswolds. The place had the aroma of melted butter and cinnamon. The scone had the most amazing crispy crust and soft inside, the pain au chocolat was amazing as well. They have an espresso machine and served a darn good cappuccino. The prices were very reasonable, less than the chains, but the quality is 1000 times better. A cozy meeting spot for the locals to catch up and chat.

I only know of them from old westbury gardens. While the food is quite good I found the owner to be abrupt and slightly unprofessional during a tea there. It’s a shame because it sours me on the overall experience. A member of my party was left standing without a place setting or seat while the owner scurried back and forth trying to sort out a problem that didn’t exist. I finally was able to secure a chair and place setting myself. The owner finally figured out what happened but never apologized for her rude behavior or for keeping an 80 year old woman standing while everyone else was seated.

This place is ABSOLUTELY SCRUMPTIOUS. Everything is delectable. Cinnamon buns, blueberry muffins, scones and pound cakes are everything you can imagine! What makes this place top tier is the owner. She makes each customer feel like family.

We won raffles for free Polka Dot Pound Cake coupons from a Comedy for a Cause event to benefit Head Trauma and boy, I’m so glad we did! First off, thanks to Polka Dot Bakery for generously giving free Pound Cake Coupons for a great cause!!! We had to travel 35/40 miles to get to the bakery in Rockville Center. We picked out 4 different flavored Pound Cakes! Some with coupons… Apple, Lemon, Cinnamon and Chocolate Chip… Sampled them over the weekend with some hot coffee and let me tell you, they were DELICIOUS!!! What else can I say? Highly Recommend this quaint little bakery… 5 out of 5 Stars!!! FYI… I never write reviews but felt I needed to in this case. LOVE this bakery and the Scones and Pound Cakes are AWESOME!!!

Everything is made fresh on the premises. I love the way the place smells when you first walk inside! The chocolate chip marble muffin is my fave but everything they make is delicious.
