Made a reservation for the high top. We got there a bit early so they weren’t ready for us but no big deal. A bit cramped but also no biggie. Everyone was super friendly and attentive.
Food was great! Moderate portions and pretty flavorful. Patatas (fancy name for the fries) were okay, but I did like the spicy tomato sauce. Mushroom labneh was very nice and almost tasted meaty, which was great! Corn muffins were nice and sweet. Crispy pork belly achieved that very real melt-in-your-mouth fatty goodness with the satisfying crunch of broiler work. The Parisian gnocchi and duck confit lasagnette were strangely the least flavorful of everything we got but still not bad, if you don’t count the fried brioche (very lightly dusted with sweetness). Cocktails were nice though!
Being tapas it’s easy to rack up that bill as you feel more adventurous, but it’s kind of expected.
What’s cool is that all the plates are small and meant for sharing, so you can try a lot of different stuff.
The steak was amazing. It was cooked perfectly and tasted so good. It was tender and juicy, just how I like it.
My favorite part was the fried cauliflower. It was not battered at all, just cooked until it was super crispy. It tasted so good, and the sauce that came with it was awesome. I could have eaten a whole plate of it myself!
I had a great time at Moxy. The food was delicious, and I would definitely go back. You should try it!
It was a good time, I wish they had their normal menu, but that was our fault.
The ambiance is quite nice and it was PACKED. The food was okay.
The tuna tartare was not flavourful, the pork belly was decent, and the meatballs were a bit dry. The vegetarian dishes were actually better. The corn chowder did need salt, the squash was nice, and the mushroom gnocchi was actually very good.
The drinks were alright, the o captain was actually good.
The churros were BAD. It was basically a chip. Not a fan.
Every plate was a wonder of taste and both cocktails I ordered were excellent. Highly recommended.
I think we oreded about one of everything, see photos.
What was the best? The gnocchi. Then the home made Italian sausage. The corn, not so much. Just lacked flavor but the sauce was delicious. The fried chicken was a disaster. Over breaded and hard as a rock. Pork belly, awesome. Beef rib wayyyyy over salted. The meat ball was decent. The crabmeat flatbrrad appeared to be fake crab which i dont want to believe being we are in Portsmouth. The table favorite was the fried pickles and sauces.
The service was fast, I mean, the food came out quick as we ordered. The servers were great as well.
Would I go here again? Not sure.
For our small plates, first to come out was the calamari. It was perfectly spiced and the peppers were a lovely addition. Then the Moxy bread was delightfully toasted. We also got the crispy pork belly (a top dish for both of us, perfect combination of flavors), the mini Italian sausages (this one fell flat for us), and the mini fried chicken (another top dish). We finished off with the whoopie pies, which to me the filling was a bit too sweet, but the dark chocolate sauce helped to cut that a little bit.
We had a lovely time and can’t wait to come back!
For parking, there’s some street parking available, but I’d recommend parking in one of the garages and walking, so you don’t get caught up waiting for pedestrians and looking for a spot. The Hanover Garage (as of June 1) is undergoing some construction so certain entrances/exits are closed, which can prolong the parking and exiting process. There are signs that recommend the Foundry Garage.
Had dinner with friends before a jazz show. We tried a little of just about everything on the menu. Small plates were delicious. Our server was attentive and very friendly. Cool vibe.
Glad I was introduced to this best kept secret.
