20 years since the just time I was here. Decor was inviting and interesting. Seating was roomy and tables were good size, so plenty of room for elbows in the booth.

I lived in island Lake years ago and would come to the Island Café quite often. I’ve since moved, but on a whim, we decided to go for breakfast. If you haven’t been, the place is adorable on the inside. There’s tons of Betty Boop memorabilia everywhere. So many cool things to look at. It gives you that diner feel which I love. There’s a counter that you could eat at as well as table in booths. It seems to mostly be regulars that are local. I had fried steak, eggs over, medium with hashbrowns and some delicious cinnamon swirl toast. My husband had biscuits and gravy with eggs over easy. The food was phenomenal. They have A daily soup menu that offers two delicious soups. The chicken and rice and chicken and dumplings are my favorite. They’re always on the same day of the week. They also have fresh pies that taste like your grandma baked them. Service has always been great. Everyone is super friendly. I’m glad we stopped in, I forgot how great breakfast is there. We will be back more often.

It has been many years since I have eaten at this location surprise me how clean it is and how friendly the waitress was. The food was outstanding I had a ham and cheese omelette and a side of their ham which is some of the best ham I’ve ever had pancake was excellent Place was really clean and need for a place that has been around forever can’t wait to go back for breakfast again

This is a wonderful small restaurant. We each had something different and all enjoyed their choice. I personally had breakfast for dinner and it was excellent. One had perch and said it was great. One had avocado toast & it too was very good. We will definitely return again. The service was excellent even though we were there late until closing time. We never felt we were being rushed out the door. Overall if you want a great meal for a lot of choices, give this place a try.

Second visit even better than my first. I think this was called Slammers, sausage egg and cheese between cinnamon swirl toast, will get this again the next time I’m there. Super nice waitress and we were not rushed at all as we lingered after eating.

Like many businesses, they seem to be struggling with staff. Only 1 server, running around like crazy, but so pleasant when taking our order, so kudos to her! Food was delivered in a timely manner, and was very good. Another employee was helping pour coffee, remove plates, etc.
If you like Betty Boop, this is the place for you ~ lots of decorations all over.

Quality has dropped off. I remember the food used to taste good. Everything i ate was awful. Its unfortunate because i used to like this place.

It’s a typical brunch café, but Betty Boop style. The person I went with and I had a lot of changes requested to our meals and they tried their best. The chefs got my order right but forgot my pancakes, which come with the meal. Our waitress was super cool about it and expedited getting the pancakes to us.

However, I didn’t have a good first impression, as the waitress placed a dirty coffee mug in front of me, saw me look at it in confusion, and then jokingly said “Oh you don’t want that one!” I chalked it off as being busy. Coffee was bland, even for an old sea salt like me. Also, the bathroom was pretty dirty upon my pitstop. Makes me wonder how sanitary things are in the kitchen… trying hard to think of a reason to return.
