I complained that the green curry sauce wasn’t the same as previous dishes we’d had there. I always had the same dish as I’ve loved the coconut flavor. I’ve had the dish many many times. But they chose to disbelieve me. The manager actually said that “No one else has complained so sorry we aren’t responsible”. This place has changed. During Covid we ordered takeout many many times to support them. Now I’m trying recipes at home to recreate the dish. Won’t be back. Try other Thai restaurans such as Thai Terrace, Silk Elephant, or Pusadee’s Garden. There are at least 20 others.
I have loved everything. My issue is we NEVER get the plum sauce even when we ask in the notes. I dont know who eats fried rice without any sauce but the plum sauce is what we love about the dish. I ordered it tonight and again no sauce. If we pick it up we get it but never when we order online.
I’d love them to read the comments and/or just include the sauce. I’d rather have one sauce and not get the extra than have no sauce.
Every dish is usualy delicious and this is the first time my entire fried rice dish is burnt. Its not edible. I already gave a good rating on the food app before I realize it was burnt because I had only ate the soup and dumplings. Food, tip and delivery fee = about $50 in wasted food. I am very disappointed!
This visit was especially great thanks to our server, Bell. She was incredibly kind, welcoming, and genuinely sweet. She checked in on us multiple times without ever being overbearing and made sure everything was perfect throughout the meal.
Overall, Thai Cottage continues to be one of my go-to spots. Amazing food, warm service, and a cozy atmosphere. Highly recommend!
This place is clean, not crowded, and the food served delicious. The portion was large and cost only $20-25 per person.
I would actually say this place is top 3 thai places in Pittsburgh especially because of the hidden gem vibe. No wait and very quiet.
Tom Yum noodle bowl was good. So were the noodle plate Kee Mow.
the prices are worth the portions, you can get at least 2 meals out of one meal order when you do take out. the inside was super cute and had a very chill atmosphere. awesome place.
For this otherwise very pleasant eatery with outstanding service , the flavors are however hit-or-miss .
***The Combo App is a good way to test flavors.
The Crispy Veg Rolls are tasteless and very oily.
The Dumplings are well seasoned, but missing authentic Thai flavors.
The Satay is as flavorful as should be!
The dipping sauces however sugary, missing the balancing chili kick and umami flavor of fish sauce.
Thanks to table chili paste, mixing it with sauces rescued the Appetizers.
***There’s a good menu of familiar Thai comfort foods as well as some house “specialties”.
The Crispy Basil Duck is outstanding. It has all the aroma and flavors that are uniquely Thai.
The Kay Soi (Khao Soi) is the worst version I’ve ever tasted. It’s very sweet, lacking the flavor/aroma of Thai spices. ***A very dismal attempt on the Northern Thai gustatory treasure***. IT WENT BACK TO THE KITCHEN.
Expressing my dislike of sweet entrees, the waitress recommended Kee Mow. With chicken and extra veggies, it’s indeed very good.
A major issue: There’s no real Thai chili heat despite orders of level 5 and 7 out of the supposed scale of 1 -10.
NOTE: It is a fallacy to equate “spicy” with “chili hot”.
Spices are multiplicity of flavors and aromas, mostly from plants, chilies are a minor component of true spiciness.
☕️☕️☕️ Jasmine Tea is a terrific way to cleanse the palate and stimulate gastric juices DESPITE the hit-or-miss flavors.
IF AND ONLY IF the cook tempers the sweetness, fortify the Thai flavors and correctly add the chili heat, this eatery will be lifted up the culinary scale!!!
