The Wood House is a locally-owned, non-chain family restaurant featuring many made in house, from scratch, classic American food items including: the world’s finest hamburger, renowned broasted chicken, fantastic soups, awesome onion rings, classic cheese frenchees, hard ice cream malts, and a great selection of pies. We take great pride in the daily grinding of our own USDA choice grade beef, the hand breading of our chicken, and the many other homemade items. Some may call our old school, no gimmicks style of good service and top-notch food a throwback, but we take that as a compliment. We have been a staple in Bismarck for decades and welcome all to give us a try. From the Wood House family to you, we wish you well.

I had an early dinner tonight at the Wood House restaurant in Bismarck. You order your meal by speaking to someone over a telephone. The aesthetic was a wood panel dream with hunter green ceilings and peel-n-stick carpet squares to rival an 80’s arcade. It was early so it wasn’t crowded but I got the feeling that everyone brought a date there at some point. I just ordered the hamburger deluxe with jalapeños. It was delicious and I would recommend this place to anyone stay over or passing through
Three of us were well pleased with the burgers and soup we ordered. You guys do the best burgers. 2 of us had the January special. We added extras to make them extra special! We each had a cup of soup. The perfect pairing for a North Dakota sub zero day. I left warm inside and just the perfect amount of full for $15. It was a joy to have such fast service and a great wait staff!
The outside of this restaurant proclaims that it is home to the “World’s best hamburgers” or something similar. It was far from it. The burger was mediocre at best. The onion rings they came with the platter had almost no flavor. The fries were fine. The weirdest part of this outdated location was the fact you had to pick up a phone and order your food. I wouldn’t recommend going there.
We were passing through on a long trip and checked this place out. We got takeout. The burgers were delicious. The fries and onion rings could’ve used more salt, but they provided salt, pepper, ketchup and mustard on the side. We splurged on a cookie which was also delicious. I wanted to try a malt, but figured I had done enough damage with the burgers, sides, and cookie. The meals were provided in a box which helped as we were eating in the car. I’d definitely go back.
Hamburgers are terrific.. they also have buffalo burgers…onion rings are to die for… they also have super delicious broasted chicken too… takes a little more time to make. But worth itWhen I have the craving for hamburgers and onion rings, which are ground and made fresh daily, this is where I fix that craving..
This is my favorite place too eat when I come too Bismarck for doctors appointments me my mom and brothers would come here my mom loved the soup she passed a few weeks ago so stopping by too eat is going to be memory lane at our booth we normally sit at on our stop through town it’s a great place too eat I love ordering over the phone and how quickly and fresh and hot the food is never cold always hot and in a timely matter would recommend stopping by if your in town excellent place and food
Been eating at the Woodhouse since I was a little girl and now I love taking her and letting her order using the phone. Such a fun family resurant! And they have the best burgers in town.
Food at the Woodhouse is as good as it always has been! The atmosphere is still fun- you get to call your order in from your table. Our food was super hot and freshly made, and delicious. Currently they have a limited menu, but everything is a long time favorite. The customer service is very friendly, and overall we enjoy going there! It is a family friendly place.
Excellent double burger and onion rings! I will definitely eat here again!
I stopped by this little joint as we were passing through ND, and I am so glad I did! Solid burger (a little on the greasy side but isn’t that what makes a delicious bite?) and friendly, chatty staff. The phones at the booths are pure brilliance, and the house made ranch was a nice touch. Great little classic burger place. Skip the chain stores and support your local businesses instead. They deserve it!
