We are a restaurant with a mission to bring home-cooked soul food to upstate New York. Ramen is not a fast food; slow-cooked with extreme heat through hours of preparation, Maru Ramen’s home-cooked broth is made with love. Slow-prepared, but probably best enjoyed quickly. This mission of making sure we do ramen right by its slow-cooked tradition is reflected in the interior as well. A design aesthetic centered in clean lines and cool colors, Maru Ramen features an inviting and traditional oak bar from where our dishes and drinks are served.

Cute little place! Waitress was attentive and nice, able to answer any questions we had. The food we got came out really fast and was fresh! I tried something a previous reviewer suggested, and glad I did. The dumplings were soooo good. The prices surprised me- I thought it would be more expensive than it was.

Visited Ithaca with my parents and my daughter for a day and planned to have dinner at Maru Ramen. We arrived after 6pm and got a table for four. Our order was taken immediately and the food arrived quickly. We started with hirata buns with pork, a steamed bun with perfectly tender slices of pork. This was followed with the beef dumplings, edamame, seaweed salad, and vegetable tempura (crispy and light shredded veggies). My stepfather got the avocado bibimbop, mom got the Hangover ramen (spicy broth with pork), daughter got the miso broth with pork, and I got the tonkotsu ramen. The noodles are fresh, pork sliced thin and tender, and the broths were perfect (not salty and flavorful) even on a sunny day.

The pork bun was delicious, but the ramen was just OK. I mean, ramen is like pizza, as long as it’s hot it’s usually pretty good, so it wasn’t awful or anything. Just, nothing to write home about. Will continue sampling other places in the area
